Chapter 149 – GOY 149
#149
The red light lingered for nearly a minute before slowly fading away.
It wasn’t just the color, but the duration was far longer than before. Reflecting on past experiences, light had only briefly flickered from Jin-hwan and disappeared; it had never lasted this long.
“…T-the test is complete. Please remove your hand.”
The employee spoke a beat late, seemingly flustered. It appeared she was seeing something like this for the first time as well.
Was there really a problem with Jin-hwan?
“Please wait a moment.”
She spoke quickly and stepped into the computer room. She began talking to another employee wearing glasses. The door was closed, so I couldn’t hear them, but the expressions on their faces were unsettling.
After a while, the employee came back out.
“I apologize. It seems it will take some time to analyze the test results.”
“Is there a problem with Jin-hwan?”
“Please come with me for now.”
Avoiding a direct answer, she guided us to a waiting room on the first floor.
“Please wait here until the results are ready.”
The employee spoke politely and left, leaving only Joo Seung-hyuk and me in the spacious waiting room.
“What’s going on? Is something wrong with Jin-hwan?”
“It’s probably nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
Joo Seung-hyuk brushed my hair back.
“Could there be something wrong with our matching rate?”
Truthfully, I was more worried about that than Jin-hwan. Had an abnormal reaction occurred because of a problem with our matching rate, or had Joo Seung-hyuk’s Guiding Rejection reaction worsened?
I took his hand and checked his mana. Fortunately, the flow of mana was stable.
“Seung-hyuk-ah, can I give you Guiding?”
“Of course. You can do it anytime.”
“Tell me if anything feels off.”
“I will.”
I focused my mind and let my mana flow. I intended to stop immediately if any Guiding Rejection reaction appeared. However, contrary to my worries, his body accepted my mana smoothly.
Just as I felt relieved, his brow furrowed.
“Hyung….”
“Seung-hyuk-ah, what is it? Does it hurt?”
I immediately stopped the Guiding and tried to pull my hand away. But Joo Seung-hyuk gripped me tightly again.
“I’m… aroused.”
“…….”
I pulled my hand away again. In response, he curled one corner of his mouth up and pulled me by the waist.
“Since you made me like this, you have to take responsibility.”
I could feel the passion in his eyes. Since I was a Beta, I [unauthorized copy]couldn’t sense it, but Joo Seung-hyuk must have been emitting an enormous amount of Alpha Pheromone right now.
Knowing Joo Seung-hyuk, he might actually do it here. I must be crazy. How could I perform Guiding in a place like this? I had momentarily forgotten that Joo Seung-hyuk was a man without brakes.
“Endure it.”
“Endure it?”
“Yes. You’re good at enduring.”
“I am?”
“Yes. You haven’t done it once since your Rut. So endure it a bit longer.”
“Hyung, that’s exactly why I can’t endure it anymore.”
Our lips overlapped.
Even as I thought that I shouldn’t do this here, that this wasn’t the time, I accepted his kiss.
Joo Seung-hyuk wanted me. His desire was welcome, and the feeling of his body heat and everything blending together was ecstatic.
I wanted to surrender everything just like this, but a remaining sliver of reason blocked me.
I slowly pushed my body away. Joo Seung-hyuk respected my wish.
“Was the Guiding okay?”
“Yes. It was great.”
“Compared to before?”
I was worried that the matching rate might have dropped since last time. It felt the same to me, but Joo Seung-hyuk might feel differently.
“It keeps getting better. It’s almost amazing that it can actually improve further from here.”
He looked straight into my eyes. He was simply talking about Guiding, but for some reason, a part of my heart felt ticklish.
“Then that’s a relief.”
“Don’t worry. And regardless of what the matching rate is, I truly don’t care. My Guide is only Lee Yeon-soo. I don’t need anyone else.”
His words, which had always felt burdensome, now came across as sweet.
“Seung-hyuk-ah, I…”
I wanted to tell him that I loved him. I didn’t want to wait for the matching rate results or until we left this place.
I wanted to pour out all my feelings for him right now.
Slam!
Suddenly, the door burst open, and a group of people dressed in black suits rushed in.
I could feel strong mana emanating from all of them. Most of them were High-rank Espers.
“Esper Joo Seung-hyuk.”
The man at the front spoke to Joo Seung-hyuk.
It was Park Chang-seop, the Deputy Director of the Inspection Division and an S-Class Esper. Park Chang-seop was particularly famous for solving violent crimes committed by High-rank Espers.
Why was Park Chang-seop, the ace of the Inspection Division who only handled major cases among ability user crimes, looking for Joo Seung-hyuk?
Could he have attempted to steal Jin-hwan? No, that couldn’t be. There was no reason for Joo Seung-hyuk to target Jin-hwan….
Unlike me, who was incredibly tense, Joo Seung-hyuk looked down at Park Chang-seop with a relaxed expression.
“You are under arrest on suspicion of attempted murder of Esper Park Geon-woo.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
Joo Seung-hyuk tried to kill [Read on Read BL Novels]Park Geon-woo? Could it be unauthorized copy[Read on Read BL Novels]that he orchestrated the car accident that happened before the break?
I looked at Joo Seung-hyuk in shock. However, he simply smirked.
“Anyone would think you’re an actual investigative agency.”
Park Chang-seop and the Inspection Division staff flinched when he touched upon their greatest weakness.
The Inspection Division was not a formal investigative agency. With a dedicated ability crime unit already existing within the prosecution, there had been constant criticism that the Center’s Inspection Division was overstepping its authority.
The police and prosecution also had great grievances. However, because there were practical limits to investigating ability users, they could do nothing but watch as the power of the Inspection Division grew.
“You have the right to remain silent….”
Park Chang-seop wiped the unpleasant expression from his face and recited the Miranda rights. But Joo Seung-hyuk interrupted him in a disinterested tone.
“Can I go eat first?”
“Joo Seung-hyuk, do you think this is a joke?”
Park Chang-seop’s patience seemed to have reached its limit as he raised his voice. But even as the ace of the Inspection Division roared, Joo Seung-hyuk didn’t even blink. If anything, I was the one who was terrified.
“I have a prior engagement.”
“What!”
“Seung-hyuk-ah….”
I tried to stop Joo Seung-hyuk.
Joo Seung-hyuk was under suspicion of attempted murder. There was nothing to be gained by provoking the Deputy Director of Inspection.
“Excuse me, Deputy Director, there must be some misunderstanding. Seung-hyeok wouldn’t… Park Geon-woo…”
“This is not for Guide Lee Yeon-soo to intervene in.”
Park Chang-seop cut me off and signaled his subordinate. Then, the employee next to me pushed my shoulder. No, before he could, Joo Seung-hyuk stopped him, and the man’s arm was twisted instantly.
“Aagh!”
“Seung-hyuk-ah!”
“Are you okay?”
“Yes….”
I was fine. But the situation was spiraling toward the worst. Dense mana instantly filled the waiting room. All the Inspection Division employees had released their mana and entered a combat stance.
“Esper Joo Seung-hyuk, if you do [unauthorized copy]not comply with the arrest, we will have [stolen content]no choice but to use force.”
“You’re going to drag me away by force?”
A blatant sneer hung on Joo Seung-hyuk’s lips. But unlike the composed Joo Seung-hyuk, I was anxious.
They were all High-rank Espers, and there was an S-Class among them. No matter how strong Joo Seung-hyuk was, it would be overwhelming to face them all.
Moreover, this wasn’t a fight to be won by strength.
If a battle broke out and any Inspection Division employee was injured—or even if he just started the fight—a charge of obstruction of official duties would be added to Joo Seung-hyuk’s record.
When an ability user used their power to attack an investigator, they received aggravated punishment compared to ordinary criminals. Setting aside the controversy of whether the Inspection Division was a proper investigative agency, resisting arrest and attacking an inspection officer was a serious crime.
Even if Joo Seung-hyuk was stronger than all of them combined, there was no way to win. The more damage the Inspection Division took, the more disadvantaged Joo Seung-hyuk would become.
“Seung-hyuk-ah, I’m really okay. So let him go.”
At my words, Joo Seung-hyuk released the Inspection Division employee as if throwing him away.
“Ugh!”
As the man fell clumsily, some employees checked his condition. However, most of the Inspection Division staff still did not lower their guard.
Not everyone in the Inspection Division was High-rank. They must have gathered visit our sitethe elites to catch Joo Seung-hyuk. [unauthorized copy]Yet, even in this volatile crisis, no [Read on Read BL Novels]tension could be found in Joo Seung-hyuk.
“Hyung, your hands are cold.”
Joo Seung-hyuk held my hand tightly.
As he said, the blood felt cold from my fingertips. I was terrified that Joo Seung-hyuk might be framed or that something would go wrong. I feared that a battle would break out, leading to him being injured or receiving aggravated punishment.
“Don’t worry. I won’t fight.”
Joo Seung-hyuk slowly stroked my cheek and then looked at Park Chang-seop.
“I will comply with the arrest. In exchange, guarantee the safety of Guide Lee Yeon-soo.”
“You’re stating the obvious. Guide Lee Yeon-soo is a precious talent of the Republic of Korea. We will naturally protect him.”
“If a single hair on his head is harmed, be prepared for the consequences.”
“We are doing our best to protect Guide Lee Yeon-soo even now, so do not worry.”
A sharp exchange continued between the two. Joo Seung-hyuk glared at Park Chang-seop before shifting his gaze to me.
“Hyung, I’m sorry. You’ll have to eat alone today.”
His cold demeanor vanished completely, and his eyes overflowed with apology and regret.
“No. It’s okay. Don’t worry about me.”
“Wait for me at home. I’ll be back soon.”
He held my hand tightly and gave a bright smile.
“Okay.”
Surrounded by the Inspection Division staff, Joo Seung-hyuk walked out of the waiting room.
The moment he disappeared and the door closed, the strength left my legs.
