Chapter 15 – 15

He slept in until around noon, skipping breakfast entirely. Thanks to that, his accumulated fatigue vanished completely. Feeling slightly buoyant, Euro hummed a tune as he left his room for lunch.

He had slept so deeply that he hadn’t even dreamed the previous night. How long had it been since he’d had such a sweet slumber? The journey of drifting from one shabby inn to another and taking catnaps in a swaying carriage felt like a distant memory.

How wonderful would it be if every day were just like yesterday? Lying under a cloudless, clear sky as a blanket, leaning against Kisha’s fluffy fur, he had whispered a great many stories that he had kept locked inside until now.

Could there be a better conversation partner in the world than Kisha? Not only did Kisha listen quietly to his stories, but also never forgot to respond from time to time.

Even before possessing Euro Leches, he had never revealed his inner thoughts so completely to another person. He had unconsciously poured out every single memory from his previous life before the possession, and the sense of liberation was indescribable.

He continued talking until the sun began to set, then went up to his room at Raymond’s call to enjoy dinner.

With no one watching and no one he had to act for by forcing his energy up, it was only natural that the food tasted even better.

After relaxing his body in a warm bathtub and going straight to bed, it couldn’t have been any better. A natural smile played on Euro’s lips, and he reached a point where the whole world simply looked beautiful.

“Let’s do our best today, too.”

Euro resolved as he straightened his clothes in front of the dining hall. Things in life fundamentally depended on one’s mindset. Even if every action he took was nothing more than a struggle for ‘survival,’ it could be a sufficiently good thing if he could enjoy it.

When else would he get to wear such fine clothes, eat delicious food, stolen content[unauthorized copy]and live a life where someone attended to his every need from A to Z?

Even if all of this was nothing more than a midsummer night’s dream that would vanish in the future, it was enough to enjoy it lavishly while it was given.

Fortunately, Melione had been kind to him so far, and he had clearly confirmed the healing ability. Everything was flowing well without any particular incidents or accidents.

He would have been at a loss if he had fallen into this world knowing nothing, but that wasn’t the case. He was the person who knew the worst ending of this world, and therefore, he was the only person with the power to change everything.

‘I will not die.’

Euro shouted inwardly with his lips pressed tight. Yes, for now, that resolve alone was enough. They say that even if the sky collapses, there is always a way out. Now that he knew where that way out was, there was nothing for him to fear.

Although there was a lunch meeting with the Duke—which felt like a long-postponed homework assignment—Euro resolved to enjoy this as well and entered the dining hall with a bright smile.

“The weather is truly lovely today, Your Grace. How are you feeling?”

Sitting naturally in his seat, Euro greeted the Duke. He lightly omitted the greeting asking if he had slept well last night. This was because there was no way the man had slept properly anyway.

“I am fine. Your Highness seems to be in a very good mood.”

“Of course. It is thanks to your care, Your Grace.”

“You flatter me.”

He replied lightly and picked [Read on Read BL Novels]up his utensils, unauthorized copyand Euro stolen contentalso licked his lips while looking at the prepared food.

Usually, meals with a boss at work, a senior at school, or an elder were expensive and delicious. Because the other party knew the person might feel uncomfortable, they bought better food to offset that feeling.

So, he decided to think of this occasion as being the same. Unfortunately, since Euro had started his life as a trainee around middle school, he hadn’t gone to college, let alone had a professional career, but he roughly knew the feeling.

If the agency he belonged to could be called a workplace, it was practically the same as having entered society early. In particular, the agency he had been with was not even a small-to-medium enterprise but more like a hole-in-the-wall shop, so he often ate with the CEO.

They didn’t exactly buy expensive or high-quality food, but as a poor trainee, he was grateful just to be bought a meal. This was because Euro came from an orphanage and didn’t have as much pocket money as the other trainees.

Thus, he had never eaten such fine food even before the possession. Since it was food he didn’t know how long he could enjoy, he had to eat it while it was there.

Once Melione began his meal, Euro also picked up his utensils and started cutting the steak. He was very satisfied that meat was served with every meal.

As the meal continued without much conversation, Melione, who was barely eating, asked Euro, who was focusing intently on the meat.

“You seem to have become quite close with Kisha.”

At those words, Euro swallowed the food in his mouth and widened his eyes.

“……How did you know?”

“I looked out the window yesterday because I heard the sound of laughter. The rear garden is visible from the office window.”

“…….”

“You looked very affectionate. The relationship between you and Kisha.”

Euro froze, meeting the Duke’s gaze, before awkwardly reaching out to drink some water. Since he had heard the sound of laughter, he wondered if the man had heard all the whispered conversations as well.

Was he testing him after hearing everything, or had he simply chosen a suitable conversation topic? Even if he didn’t know the content, it was certain that he had seen Euro talking to Kisha.

“I, uh… I didn’t know I was visible. I’m sorry if we were too loud.”

“Not at all. I only asked because it was a pleasant sight.”

“Phew, oh. I see.”

There was no particular change in Melione’s expression. Fortunately, it didn’t seem like he had asked to test him after hearing something. With that, Euro breathed a sigh of relief and put down the water glass.

But that was only for a moment; he suddenly snapped awake as if struck by lightning. If Melione hadn’t heard the conversation, but had instead seen the scene where he sang to heal Kisha’s paw, it would be a disaster.

“I just… I wondered if I was too loud. I didn’t have anyone to talk to since I came alone from Norden.”

‘Keep it natural, keep it natural.’

Euro muttered to himself, calming his nerves. He couldn’t keep showing his flustered state so obviously. Only then, if he were asked why he suddenly started singing while holding Kisha’s paw, could he nonchalantly brush it off as nothing.

“I suppose I got carried away because Kisha listened so intently to my stories. At first, I found Kisha [Read on Read BL Novels][visit our site]a bit scary, but they have such wonderful manners.”

“Manners. That animal isn’t like that.”

“No, I’m serious. Kisha is truly kind and thoughtful.”

Euro nodded firmly. If nothing else, he was sincere about this one thing. It might look ridiculous to speak of manners or kindness regarding an animal, but to Euro, it was the truth.

Kisha hadn’t offered comfort in human words, but during that long story, Kisha hadn’t moved once, nor had Kisha dozed off.

Whenever the story seemed to stop, Kisha had even nudged him with a nose to urge him on. To Euro, this meant that yesterday wasn’t just him talking unilaterally, but a conversation.

“To be honest, I was a bit surprised. I thought Kisha was extraordinary, but I didn’t know a conversation would be possible.”

“Do you perhaps understand the language of beasts?”

Melione asked, sounding somewhat incredulous, and at this, Euro burst into laughter.

“How could that be? But for some reason, I felt like we were having a conversation. Since Your Grace has spent more time with Kisha than I have, I think you know what I mean.”

“I wonder. The reason Kisha follows me is not because we communicate, but because I am the one who provides food.”

“What?”

“It is true that Kisha lives in the mansion, but it is not because it is a well-tamed unauthorized copyanimal. In the first place, I did not tame it. The main reason it stays by my side is that the space is [visit our site]the quietest. There are no humans to bother it.”

There were no humans lingering annoyingly around Melione. Since he didn’t even permit people to speak to him unless they had business, it was only natural.

Thus, his side was always serene. Melione didn’t go out of his way to talk to Kisha. Why would he do such a useless thing, thinking he could communicate with a beast?

However, Euro wore a puzzled expression at the answer. From his perspective, Kisha was a smart being who was accustomed to humans and understood words quite well.

Ridiculously, he had even wondered if Kisha was a human disguised as a tiger. Yet, Melione referred to Kisha simply as a ‘beast.’

“Isn’t Kisha an animal that Your Grace brought here?”

To Euro’s question, Melione answered readily.

“No, it is not. Kisha has lived in this mansion since before I was born.”

“Then is it an animal brought by the previous Duke?”

“No. Kisha is an animal brought by my great-grandfather, four generations ago.”

“What? A tiger lives that long?”

Even if everyone was said to have died young around thirty, four generations back made no sense. Even if Kisha had been brought as a cub, wouldn’t that mean Kisha had lived for 100 years?
