-A client is calling. Mom’s busy, so I’m hanging up.
The call ended unilaterally like that. Do Ye-jun couldn’t even get a word in.
“……What?”
He asked back blankly a moment too late, but there was no one left to answer him.
“Wow… Cheon Sa-hyun is seriously a lunatic….”
Exclaiming in admiration at Cheon Sa-hyun’s actions, which exceeded his imagination, Do Ye-jun shook his head.
Regardless, thanks to that, Do Ye-jun managed to get the day off. Humming to himself, he took a leisurely shower and stepped out, only to be horrified by the ten missed calls piled up on his phone screen. Every single one was from Cheon Sa-hyun.
“Wow, crazy!”
Vibrate, vibrate. Right on cue, the eleventh call began to ring. Hurriedly answering the phone, Do Ye-jun spoke in alarm.
“Why did you call so many times?”
-Why didn’t you answer your phone?
“No, I was showering…. Why did you call?”
-I sent a car because I thought it would be hard for Hyung to get to our company alone.
“Huh? What does that mean? Why would I go to your company?”
-Why else? Didn’t you hear from your mother?
“I did…? That you left something behind….”
-Yes. So Hyung has to bring it to me.
It was absurd. He had thought that while the man was a lunatic, he was at least sharp, but it turned out he was just clumsy?
Do Ye-jun asked back, bewildered.
“What? That wasn’t just an excuse you made up because I said I didn’t want to work? You actually left something?”
Over the phone, Cheon Sa-hyun chuckled in a low voice, saying that Do Ye-jun’s clueless voice was too funny.
-Yes.
“What is it? Where is it?”
At the news that Cheon Sa-hyun had actually left something, Do Ye-jun hurriedly looked around. Though he didn’t know the details, Do Ye-jun knew that Cheon Sa-hyun was a fairly important figure at the company.
And he also knew that there were many people who threatened his position and watched with wide eyes, waiting for him to make a mistake.
-Hmm….
“When did you say the meeting starts?”
-3 o’clock.
“Where is it? I need to go quickly.”
Do Ye-jun began to change his clothes in a hurry.
-It’s in that room right now….
“Room? My room? Where here?”
Do Ye-jun checked the top [Read on Read BL Novels]of the desk, under the desk, and then turned around to look under the bed.
-It’s right there.
“There? Where is ‘there’?”
Straightening his bent back, Do Ye-jun asked with a puzzled face.
-You are. I’ll be waiting, so come quickly.
“…….”
This crazy bastard….
Before Do Ye-jun could even swear, the call ended again.
“Aaaagh!”
Frustrated, Do Ye-jun punched the air wildly.
“Do you think I’ll just trot along and follow you because you say so? Don’t make me laugh!”
Vibrate.
[Cheon Sa-hyun: If Hyung doesn’t come, I’ll really have no choice but to tell your mother that I made you lie to her ㅠㅠ You’re coming, right?]
After seeing the meticulous text from Cheon Sa-hyun, Do Ye-jun had no choice but to trot along after him.
As he had been told, as soon as he finished preparing and trudged out the front gate, he saw a familiar car. Moon Sa-bin, who was in the driver’s seat, spotted Do Ye-jun and stepped out of the car. He then bowed deeply toward Do Ye-jun.
Since they were originally on casual greeting terms, Do Ye-jun was quite flustered by his sudden formality and bowed back awkwardly.
“Why… why….”
When he asked why he was greeting him like this, Moon Sa-bin let out an “Ah.”
“I am Moon Sa-bin, working under Director Cheon Sa-hyun. I have been informed in advance that Mr. Do Ye-jun is currently suffering from short-term amnesia. I will ensure you are escorted with the utmost comfort, so please do not worry.”
“…What?”
“Then, this way please.”
Before Do Ye-jun could respond, Moon Sa-bin opened the rear door. At his gesture to get in, Do Ye-jun climbed into the car as told. He had no idea how far the “amnesia” ball he had thrown had actually traveled.
‘No, he’s taking it this far?’
“We will depart once you have fastened your seatbelt.”
At those words, Do Ye-jun hurriedly buckled up. Their eyes met in the rearview mirror. Moon Sa-bin gave a gentle smile and smoothly started the car.
Since he didn’t know what exactly Cheon Sa-hyun had said, Do Ye-jun couldn’t even strike up a conversation as he usually did. He could only stare blankly out the window, enduring the awkward silence.
After a long while, Do Ye-jun finally asked cautiously.
“Um… excuse me, Cheon Sa-hyun didn’t actually leave something behind, did he?”
It seemed unlikely, but he wondered if, by some slim chance, Cheon Sa-hyun had actually left something important. Moon Sa-bin replied in a soft voice.
“Yes. Other than instructions to escort Mr. Do Ye-jun comfortably, there were no other directives.”
“…I see.”
Answering in a tiny, shrinking voice, Do Ye-jun reached a point where he became conscious of even his own breathing in the suffocating silence.
“Um, if it’s okay, could you put on the radio….”
“Yes.”
As Moon Sa-bin turned on the radio, a cheerful advertisement played. An explanation for an athlete’s foot cream that claimed to make it disappear in one go echoed through the silent car. Though he didn’t have athlete’s foot, Do Ye-jun listened to the ad with pretend interest. Next, an ad for a laxative began to play.
‘Why are the ads all like this….’
Do Ye-jun squeezed his eyes shut. Then, he barely managed to open the conversation.
“Um…… Secretary Mun?”
“Yes.”
“Actually, I don’t have amnesia.”
Moon Sa-bin paused for a moment, glanced at Do Ye-jun through the rearview mirror, and nodded.
“Yes, I see.”
He didn’t seem to believe a word of it.
“No, really…. I remember everything!”
“Yes. I believe you. You haven’t eaten yet, right? You must be hungry, but the [unauthorized copy]Director said he wants to have a meal together. Would you like some chocolate?”
True to his role as Cheon Sa-hyun’s secretary, his skill at changing the subject was identical. Do Ye-jun mumbled in a half-defeated voice.
“I’m fine. Instead, I’d like some water….”
“Yes.”
Moon Sa-bin took water from the glove box in the passenger seat and handed it to Do Ye-jun.
“Thank you.”
Taking the water, Do Ye-jun quickly moistened his dry throat.
“It will take some time, so you may sleep.”
With those words, the conversation with Moon Sa-bin ended, and Do Ye-jun fell asleep listening to the road traffic reports coming from the radio. Moon Sa-bin lowered the volume of the radio and called Cheon Sa-hyun.
-Did you pick him up well?
“Yes. He is currently asleep.”
-Please ensure he arrives safely.
“Yes. And as you mentioned, he stated that he does not have amnesia.”
-And what did you say to that?
“I simply told him I understood and moved past it.”
-Well done.
Moon Sa-bin glanced at the rearview mirror. Do Ye-jun was still fast asleep, oblivious to the world.
He was a truly fascinating person. It would be understandable if he were naturally fearless and easygoing. But it was strange that someone who was so fearful and worried could sleep so deeply that he wouldn’t know if someone carried him away.
Perhaps because he was a type of person not found in his own circles, Moon Sa-bin found himself observing Do Ye-jun quite often, unintentionally. At first, he thought Cheon Sa-hyun’s bad habits had flared up again and he was bullying an innocent person….
He couldn’t describe how surprised he was when Cheon Sa-hyun, who had been unusually silent even after getting in the car, finally spoke: “Please keep an eye on the area around Do Ye-jun.”
Moon Sa-bin had to ask several times, “Not Mr. Do Ye-jun himself, but the area around him?” Because only a few months ago, Cheon Sa-hyun had requested that he monitor Do Ye-jun.
At that time, Moon Sa-bin had monitored Do Ye-jun for nearly a month, only to reach the hollow conclusion that Do Ye-jun was just an ordinary citizen. Moreover, Do Ye-jun was so clumsy that during those few days, Moon Sa-bin had found his wallet, umbrella, major textbooks, and even his phone.
Since Cheon Sa-hyun had instructed him not to make direct contact or be caught, he had asked passersby to deliver the wallet and umbrella to Do [stolen content]Ye-jun. However, when [stolen content]the third textbook was lost, he couldn’t find anyone to ask, so he had no choice but to meet him in person to deliver it.
His mistake had been assuming that Do Ye-jun wouldn’t recognize him because of his clumsy nature. As soon as Do Ye-jun saw him, he asked, “Oh, you’re Cheon Sa-hyun’s secretary, right?”
Later, with the fourth item—the phone—he had tried to put it in the mailbox to avoid encountering Do Ye-jun. But as luck would have it, he ran right into Do Ye-jun, who had come out to throw away the trash at that exact moment.
Do Ye-jun approached the frozen secretary and asked curiously, “Hello, Secretary. But what are you doing there?” Then, seeing the phone in his hand, his face lit up. “Gasp, that’s my phone, right! Wow, I haven’t even finished the installments on this since I just bought it!” He then took the phone with a face that looked half-tearful.
While Moon Sa-bin stood frozen, having handed over the phone with a lukewarm expression, Do Ye-jun repeatedly expressed his gratitude and said this:
‘Hah, I’m so glad the secretary is looking after me…. I thought my luck was crazy lately because the things I lost kept coming back to me, but it was because the secretary was here. Thank you so much. I’ve been so out of it writing my college thesis lately that I keep forgetting things.’
At that moment, Moon Sa-bin felt that Do Ye-jun was just as extraordinary as Cheon Sa-hyun.
