Chapter 61 – 61
“His Excellency asked to have dinner together?”
Euro looked at Raymond while changing into his outdoor clothes. Raymond nodded and naturally assisted him.
“To be precise, I was the one who suggested it, but he seemed quite expectant.”
While having one meal a day together in the dining hall had become something of a rule, they had never extended a missed lunch into a dinner before.
‘What is he plotting?’
Raymond wasn’t the type of person to suggest a meal with Euro unless there was a reason. Unless he had something to say or something to verify.
‘Could he want to talk about what happened that night?’
Euro frowned, feeling a sense of lingering unease. Since the unexpected incident in the bedroom, Euro had been avoiding Melione.
He was afraid Melione might [visit our site]bring up that night. However, Melione hadn’t said anything unusual even during their lunches.
Fearing that words would come out if he slept elsewhere after saying he wanted to share a bed, Euro spent a long time killing time in the office, only quietly lying down beside him to sleep after Melione had fallen asleep.
He knew it looked even more suspicious, but he couldn’t help it. If they lay down together while awake, he would be reminded of that night when he didn’t know what to do with the heat rising within him.
Of course, he couldn’t even remember what happened after he lost his reason, but he didn’t even want to recall the moment his heart had been pounding so violently.
“Perhaps I did something unnecessary…”
Raymond spoke cautiously, seeing Euro’s stiff expression. At that, Euro waved his hand.
“No, it’s fine to have a meal together.”
“Is there something you are concerned about?”
“…Did His Excellency seem strange?”
“Pardon?”
“Since that day. The fact that he hasn’t said anything [visit our site]is scarier. Something definitely happened, and I was so [Read on Read BL Novels]out of it that I fell asleep here without being able to sort anything out.”
There must have been various marks left on Melione’s lower body. After all, Raymond had tidied the bedding only after Melione had woken up.
“I’m not sure. To me, he seemed the same as usual. He didn’t ask about anything else either.”
“I’m going crazy because I can’t remember. Even if he thinks it was just a dream, I might have said something strange while under the influence of the drug…”
“…”
“I’m worried I might have blabbed about the power I possess or talked about the drug. If he asks me outright, I won’t know what to say.”
Having finished changing, Euro flopped down onto the bed and scratched his head. If he had just come clean, he truly wouldn’t have known how to respond.
The healing ability, or that the relationship was for a specific purpose. If he had said such things, even a drug-addled Melione would surely have grown suspicious.
The problem started the moment he thought this might not simply be a dream. Once suspicion begins, the effect of the love drug is halved. That was why love drugs should not be used frequently.
“It might be a naive thought, but perhaps you don’t need to worry too much about that part?”
“What do you mean?”
“His Excellency likely already feels that his body has sufficiently recovered. If it were before the attempt, it would be different, but now he can even fall asleep without a sleeping pill.”
“…”
“Since he has experienced it personally, even if everything is revealed, His Excellency will not be able to cause any harm to you, My Lord. Rather…”
Raymond stopped mid-sentence and shut his mouth. It was because Euro’s expression wasn’t particularly bright.
“My Lord.”
“Yes, go on.”
“His Excellency is quite fond of you. Of course, you may not find him appealing; I know it is an excessive greed, but…”
“No, no, wait.”
“Yes?”
“In what way?”
Euro stared at Raymond with an incredulous look. At this, Raymond began to ramble about what he had observed.
“Since you asked for dinner to be prepared, he hasn’t missed a single meal. He continues to use the same bedroom without complaint. He even asks what you are doing.”
“He eats dinner because he feels hungry as he recovers, and he uses the same bedroom because I begged and pleaded. As for asking what I’m doing… it’s obvious. He’s still curious about what I’m plotting.”
“…”
“Just because he gives in once or twice since I’m clinging to him with a thick skin…”
“His Excellency is not that kind of person.”
“…”
“He is not someone who simply complies just because someone clings to him, His Excellency is not.”
Raymond firmly refuted Euro’s words. Euro let out a hollow laugh. Melione isn’t that kind of person? Just what did Raymond take him for?
“Fine, whatever. Even if that’s the [Read on Read BL Novels]case… I have to correct something else. [Read on Read BL Novels]Excessive greed? What am I?”
“…”
“I appreciate you thinking well of me, but if you said that because you’re thinking something else, you’d better drop it. I have no expectations from His Excellency, but it’s true that I have other objectives.”
Saying so, Euro stood up. He then stood facing Raymond and spoke with a fairly determined expression.
“I’m saying I didn’t come here solely for the purpose of saving that man. It’s a relationship where we both just take an appropriate amount of profit. Why bother when I could meet someone better?”
“…”
“And since it’s just the two of us, I’ll tell you: I like people who cling to me because they like me. Not the other way around.”
At Euro’s words, Raymond’s expression darkened noticeably. Euro felt somewhat sorry, but it couldn’t be helped.
Making confessions he didn’t mean and craving affection didn’t suit his nature. Moreover, he didn’t want to let personal emotions interfere with the work he was doing now.
Though Euro was speaking to Raymond, the words he uttered were also like a spell he was casting on himself.
Because after that night, Euro realized that he had begun to be conscious of Melione. He didn’t yet know exactly [Read on Read BL Novels]what emotion it unauthorized copywas, but he knew it was close to affection.
He must not like Melione. Or, to be more precise, he didn’t want to like him. Even now, he found Melione’s cold behavior and every single word uncomfortable.
But if he were to harbor affection, every day would be a wound. He didn’t want to be disappointed repeatedly by the attitude Melione showed him.
Furthermore, his position in this world was not very good. He didn’t have the confidence to fully keep his place by his side based solely on the fact that he had broken his curse.
Pressure regarding an heir and all sorts of temptations would surely be directed toward Melione. He didn’t think a love steadfast enough to overcome all that resided within Melione.
Euro knew he couldn’t be that kind of person for Melione. He didn’t want to struggle for him. He and Melione had to meet other people in the places where they respectively fit.
In many ways, that was the definite happy ending. He had had enough of agonizing to obtain the unobtainable in his previous life.
“…Well, we could at least be friends. I can provide that much emotional support. I don’t think His Excellency is a bad person either.”
Despite Euro’s words, offered as if to soothe him, Raymond remained silent for some reason. Since Raymond wasn’t usually someone to show his emotions so openly, Euro quickly changed the subject.
“Other than that, has anything else happened?”
“Ah… His Imperial Majesty the Emperor has sent a letter.”
“What?”
“Regarding the marriage. As you expected, the reaction was not very favorable.”
“What did it say?”
At Euro’s question, Raymond handed over the letter he had brought along. Melione had told him to tear it up, but Raymond had secretly kept it to show Euro.
Euro took the letter and began reading immediately. As Raymond said, the content was predictable, but he couldn’t help but feel appalled and absurd.
The Emperor was subtly mocking Melione, asking if he couldn’t even perceive the intent, despite the blind spot created because the Emperor himself had been stupid enough not to designate a person.
“Talking about an heir, my foot. Do you think my sister could have come here, lived happily, and had a child?”
The idiot—he had pushed a perfectly fine person toward death, yet he was pretending to be a good person in every way. He had only ever thought about swallowing Silon and killing Clope, yet his words were so sweet.
He had wanted an ending where no one died if possible, but not the Emperor. He would definitely kill this bastard. For the sake of world peace, this man had to be eliminated.
“And there is one more letter.”
“Who sent it?”
At Euro’s question, Raymond quietly took another letter from his breast pocket, handed it to Euro, and lowered his voice.
“It is a letter from His Highness the Crown Prince to you, My Lord. I did not inform His Excellency.”
“His Highness?”
Euro frowned as he took the letter. That Gail would contact him directly was something he had not expected at all.
