Chapter 37 – 37
“You don’t need to worry about that part. However, there is one thing I wish to ask.”
“…….”
“Exactly what do you stand to gain from all of this, my lord?”
Euro, who had come all the way from Norden to Silon to break Melione’s curse, asked for nothing in return. He had even promised to leave Silon without a second thought once Melione recovered.
Was this truly a choice made for Clope’s sake, just as he and Melione had first assumed? It seemed too great a decision to make simply to prevent a single marriage.
Even if Clope’s life depended on this marriage, it was still excessive. In the end, if the curse wasn’t broken, it was Euro who would be in a position to die.
That in itself made no sense. Who would gamble their own life so lightly to save another? That was why Raymond couldn’t stop feeling suspicious.
There was no room to doubt that Euro possessed a healing ability. The cut on Raymond’s fingertip, which had been vivid until yesterday, now left no trace whatsoever.
It was a wound caused by a knife while he was busy preparing for the wedding. It wasn’t a deep cut, but it was enough to be bothersome whenever he touched or held something.
In the late hours of the dawn, while explaining his supernatural ability, Euro had asked Raymond if he had any recent injuries. In response, Raymond removed his white glove and showed him the cut on his fingertip.
Holding Raymond’s [visit our site]hand and staring stolen contentquietly at the wound, Euro closed his eyes and began to sing.
The youthful, clear voice was refreshing and captivating at the same time. Raymond was instantly mesmerized. Though Euro didn’t seem to be exerting any particular effort, the gentle song felt incredibly powerful.
It was a song he had never heard before. Perhaps it was because Euro’s hometown was Norden. Yet, despite the unfamiliarity of the tune, the emotions the song conveyed reached him completely.
The singing didn’t last very long. It was short enough that Raymond felt a sense of regret. Euro slowly opened his eyes and let go of Raymond’s hand.
To say the wound had perfectly healed was an understatement. It would not be an exaggeration to say it was as if the wound had never existed in the first place.
That was precisely why it was more problematic. Could someone bestow such a power out of pure goodwill? That was why Euro was helping him hide the supernatural ability to avoid drawing Melione’s suspicion.
But at the same time, Raymond felt that it was all the more reason not to hide it. If he had shown such kindness while enduring a curse with his entire body, he deserved a corresponding reward. No matter what that reward might be.
“I guess you don’t believe me either, Raymond—that I’m doing this because I like His Excellency, right?”
“It’s not that, but….”
“I understand. Even I don’t know why I made this choice.”
Euro muttered with a somewhat vacant expression. No matter how much he racked his brain, this was the only way. If someone else had been possessed instead of him, they might have found a better method.
But for him, this was the best way. Even if a corresponding sacrifice was required to change a predetermined ending, it couldn’t be helped.
This was especially true because he didn’t simply want an ending where only Melione survived. He hoped for an ending where, as much as possible, unauthorized copyno one died—or better yet, one where everyone could smile.
This was a high-risk method, one that involved not only the agonizing influence of the curse but also the risk of death if he failed to persuade the dragon.
It was a case of high risk, high return. There were other choices with lower risks and higher stability. It wasn’t that he didn’t know that.
From the very beginning, before everything unfolded, he could have simply stepped away from the starting point of the incident and lived in hiding.
“This might sound a bit strange.”
“…….”
“I hate it when people die.”
Euro muttered, looking out the window.
“I believe that if there is a way to end this without anyone dying, I must naturally choose that path.”
Even if it meant standing in complete opposition to the one who created this world.
“You probably won’t understand no matter what I say anyway.”
Euro turned his head and gave a hearty laugh as he met Raymond’s eyes. Every choice he made was nothing more than a struggle to ensure he didn’t forget that he wasn’t Euro Leches, but Kim Euro.
“……Not a single soul.”
That evening, Raymond came to Euro’s bedroom accompanied by a young man. It wasn’t the guest room on the second floor, but the room connected to Melione’s bedroom.
Raymond spoke to Euro in a voice slightly lower than usual.
“This is Dent Rave, who will be attending to the mistress starting tomorrow.”
“Hello, my lord. I am Dent, the second son of Baron Rave. I look forward to serving you.”
“The Rave family is one of the vassal families. They have served the Spioren Family the longest, so please feel free to ask for anything.”
Euro nodded with a smile. However, internally, he muttered, ‘If they’re the oldest vassal family, wouldn’t they suspect me more?’
Still, since Raymond—who was in the same boat—had recommended Dent as a trustworthy person for the position of attendant, Euro accepted it readily.
“Nice to meet you, Dent. I look forward to working with you.”
“Please tell me anything without hesitation. I will do my best to assist you.”
Dent bowed politely to Euro. Raymond then excused himself and left the bedroom, leaving Euro and Dent alone.
“Actually, there are a few things I’d like to ask of you. Do you want to sit down for a moment?”
When Euro pointed to the opposite chair, Dent nodded and quickly took a seat.
“What kind of request….”
“It’s nothing major, but I actually love novel books. And I have a bit of a collecting habit.”
“Yes, I see.”
Continuing the conversation naturally, Euro reached for the pen and paper he had pushed to one side of the table. As Dent’s lips parted in confusion at the sight, Euro quickly raised his index finger.
‘Shh.’
Taking the hint, Dent shut his mouth. This clearly meant that this conversation had to be kept secret from Melione, who was in the room right across.
“As you’ve probably heard, I came to Silon alone. Since I came without an attendant, I left all the books I’ve collected back in Norden. It wasn’t just one or two; they were too heavy to carry.”
The idea that Euro Leches had a hobby of collecting books was something that would make a passing dog laugh. However, Melione wouldn’t know such minute details.
Euro wrote on the paper while rambling on with uselessly long stories.
「Answer naturally. Don’t make it obvious that you’re reading something.」
“So, I’d like you to buy a few books for me. If possible, I’d prefer out-of-print books or first editions of famous works.”
“Yes, I can find those, but… are there any specific books you are looking for?”
“There are, but… they’re quite difficult to find, so I’m hesitant to ask.”
Euro chuckled softly and slid the paper toward Dent.
「Mention the auction house.」
“……You might be able to find them if you go to an auction house. Though I’m not sure if the books you want will appear.”
Euro smiled with satisfaction at Dent’s answer. He had gotten exactly the response he wanted.
“Then what should I do? Do I have to go to the auction house several times?”
Euro nodded as if to say yes, and Dent replied.
“If you tell the auction house which books you’re looking for, they will contact you when they are listed, but they don’t notify you about every little thing, so it’s better to check the listings as they come up.”
“Really? Then can you do that for me?”
“Of course. If you tell me which books you want, I will contact the auction house.”
While Dent was answering, Euro filled the paper with a list of items to purchase from the auction house. In reality, there wasn’t a single book among them.
The entire story was merely a lie to send Dent to the auction house without suspicion.
“Hmm… I can’t think of them all right now. Can I let you know tomorrow?”
“Certainly. Please let me know whenever it is convenient.”
Dent replied and checked the paper Euro handed over. Wondering what on earth he was trying to obtain, Dent scanned the items one by one and unconsciously frowned slightly.
Most items at auctions are luxury goods—rare gemstones, ceramics or paintings by famous artists. Or, as Euro mentioned, rare first editions of novels or old artworks.
However, the items Euro had instructed him to get did not fall into these categories.
“All of… these?”
“Yeah. But I don’t have that much money, so I’m not sure if it’ll be possible.”
At Euro’s words, Dent stared at him with a strange expression. These were famous items that even someone like him, a layman in auctions, recognized.
“There is a budget allocated for your free use, so you don’t need to worry, but….”
Dent answered while looking at Euro with eyes full of doubt. It wasn’t a matter of money, but whether such things would even appear at an auction.
“Is that so? That’s a relief.”
Euro spoke in a bright voice and moved his pen simultaneously. Since [visit our site]the items visit our sitehe was asking for Read on Read BL Novelsnow had nothing to do with his abilities or Melione’s curse, it didn’t matter if he was caught.
However, Euro wanted to verify something. Whether Dent could carry out this mission without Melione finding out, and whether he would keep this secret from her.
If it was the former, that would be enough; if it was the latter, he would have to cut him off before he became too deeply involved in his affairs.
「Make sure to get everything. They will definitely appear.」
