BP 33
There were 13 fatalities, most of whom were employees on the lower floors who couldn't avoid the surprise attack. Those who were swallowed whole by the Oni left no corpses to be found. Beneath the OniCubes, which returned to earth as their cores were removed, the wailing of those who lost precious people ran rampant.
Jae-il, who stayed behind until the ambulance carrying Rowan disappeared from sight, finally let his shoulders slump. He had no strength left in his body. He could barely even stand. Tilting his head to remove his helmet, his gaze slowly scanned the surroundings. Everything around him was noisy and chaotic, but there was nothing contained in his half-closed pupils.
A sharp surge of pain caused Jae-il's legs to give way for a moment, and he barely managed to keep his balance. It felt as if someone were striking his temple with a chisel. He pressed his throbbing head firmly before letting go, a look of slight bewilderment crossing his face. He thought he could endure it well since he was used to it, but the recoil was unusually severe today. What was the reason? As Jae-il traced back through his memories, he eventually grit his teeth.
