Naomi naturally linked arms with Grayson. Wilkins, who had been watching them, quickly stepped forward.
“There’s a lounge over there. Why don’t you have some coffee and chat?”
“Oh, how kind of you. Thank you.”
Naomi pretended to put her hand to her lips, then took it away and blew a kiss towards Wilkins. Everyone watching her lovely figure felt their hearts melt and collapsed on the spot. Leaving them behind, Naomi hooked her arm in Grayson’s and floated towards the lounge. The men stared blankly at their retreating figures, and only when they disappeared inside did they finally speak.
“That bastard really is a celebrity.”
“I thought he was just crazy because he’s so eccentric, but Miller is Miller after all.”
“To be acquainted with Naomi Parker, I’m jealous.”
“Should we try to get close to him now?”
“Arthur, how are you going to cater to that crazy bastard’s whims? That’s not what friends are for.”
It was a textbook statement, but it didn’t exactly resonate. They sighed deeply and trudged back to the training room, their faces blank as if they had awakened from a futile dream.
“Ugh, it’s hot. The air conditioning here is too weak. Isn’t it just going to get hotter in a place that’s already hot?”
Sitting across from Grayson in the cafeteria, Naomi fanned herself with one hand next to her face and gave a suggestive smile. No one could miss the double meaning hidden in her words. It was a natural sex appeal to make in the home of firefighters, the symbol of sexiness. It’s just that the target, Grayson, was off the mark.
“How did a princess like you even think of coming to such a humble place?”
Grayson conspicuously took a sip of iced coffee and set it down, and Naomi glared at him with narrowed eyes.
“You’re so good at sweet-talking, as always.”
“I only ever speak the truth.”
Grayson took Naomi’s hand on the table, kissed the back of it, and smiled. Naomi also smiled sweetly, then naturally pulled her hand away and said,
“I was wondering how you were doing, so I came to see you. How’s the firefighter job?”
She tilted her head at the angle she was most confident in, rested her elbow on the table, and propped up her chin with one hand.
“I was so surprised to hear that you became a firefighter. You’ve never done anything physical like this before, have you?”
She blinked with a look of genuine surprise and pity, but Naomi Parker was an actress. An Academy Award-winning one at that. And Grayson knew very well that the expressions he ‘read’ could sometimes be completely different depending on the person. Therefore, her charms didn’t easily work on Grayson. He was just pretending to be affected.
“Life is long, Naomi. Everyone needs to try new things.”
“Good mindset.”
Naomi naturally brushed her hair behind her shoulder and squinted at Grayson, who smoothly changed the subject.
“Unless you came here to find your destiny.”
Grayson paused, and Naomi smiled brightly, confirming his reaction. Grayson shook his head in disbelief at her expression.
“Wow, word travels fast.”
It was only the day before at the party that he had said that, and it had reached Naomi’s ears in half a day, and she had even come to visit. It could only be described as the speed of light. Seeing Grayson’s reaction, Naomi smiled and said,
“All I heard was that you joined the fire station. The rest is just my guess.”
As if she expected it, she brought the iced coffee to her lips and added,
“You wouldn’t volunteer for such hard work unless it was something to do with ‘destiny.’ You’re not exactly the type to seek honor.”
You’re such a selfish man.
She swallowed the next words along with the cold drink and smiled brightly.
“So, did you find them? How are they?”
Seeing Naomi leaning forward and asking so eagerly, Grayson leaned back instead.
“Since when have you been so interested in my destined partner?”
As expected, he immediately became suspicious. Naomi had an all-purpose card she could use in times like these, and she used it appropriately.
“We’re friends, Grayson. Of course, I’m curious.”
She deliberately put on a wistful expression and added,
“I hope you find that person soon.”
“Thank you for thinking that way.”
Grayson gave a canned response, but Naomi knew that he wasn’t being sincere either. Did I come too early? Has he not found them yet? Or…
Feeling uneasy, Grayson suddenly frowned and looked in one direction. Puzzled by the sudden reaction, Naomi turned her head and stopped moving as well.
An incredibly tall and strikingly handsome man was standing there. He was looking down at a man much smaller than him, seemingly greeting a visitor and exchanging words. Naomi was momentarily lost in thought. As an actress, she had met a lot of incredibly handsome men, including Grayson in front of her, but there was something special about that red-blond beauty. Just standing there, he had a charisma that drew attention, an indifferent expression, and even the way he casually swept his hair back with his fingers was breathtakingly attractive.
“Who’s that man? Is he on your team?”
Turning to Grayson with curiosity, Naomi paused. Grayson was still looking at the man. Cautiously, Naomi reached across the table and waved her hand in front of Grayson’s eyes.
“Grayson, Grayson?”
“What?”
Moving his head to a distance where her hand couldn’t reach, Grayson asked casually, still keeping his eyes fixed on the man. Naomi glanced at the red-haired beauty and then back at Grayson. Her eyes sparkled with a strange light.
“Who’s that man? He’s incredibly handsome. I didn’t know there were firefighters like that.”
Grayson’s gaze finally turned to Naomi. But it was just his eyes that moved.
Naomi’s penchant for men was already well known. And there was no man that Naomi wanted and couldn’t get. She had slept with Grayson, but they were now friends. Of course, that was just on the surface. Grayson would never dream that Naomi, like the countless partners he had met and broken up with in the past, was grinding her teeth at him.
He probably wouldn’t care anyway.
Naomi smiled mischievously at him.
“Should I try to seduce him?”
Grayson stared at her without any expression in response to her question, which she asked with justified confidence. As the time he stared without even blinking grew longer, the smile gradually disappeared from Naomi’s face, who had been smiling all along.
“I was just kidding.”
As she laughed it off as a joke, Grayson finally looked away and looked outside again. Naomi stole a glance at his serious profile and thought to herself. What? What’s with that reaction? Could it be…
“Is that him? Is that the one you found, your destiny?”
