“Bliss is back?”
Returning home late, Ashley frowned at the unexpected news. It was true that after sending Bliss to England, he had been too busy with a sudden agenda to pay proper attention. But to return like this, without a single word. Ashley could not hide his discomfort at the impulsive behavior of his youngest child, whom he had considered the most gentle and obedient of them all.
“Why? For what reason?”
At the obvious question, Koi answered with a troubled expression.
“I don’t know. I could smell pheromones on B, but he won’t say what happened.”
“He smelled of pheromones?”
Ashley repeated the words, his brow furrowed.
“Does that mean he went into heat? The pheromones just came unauthorized copyout suddenly? [unauthorized copy]What on earth happened?”
“I don’t know.”
Koi shook his head again at the barrage of questions.
“He won’t say anything; he just cries. I didn’t know what to do, so I just comforted him for a bit and left.”
“Sigh.”
Frustrated, Ashley let out a heavy sigh. He haphazardly ruffled his neatly swept-back hair and asked again.
“Did you check with the security team leader?”
When he mentioned the hairy man sent to ensure Bliss’s safety and surveillance, Koi gave a bitter reply.
“He just said nothing happened.”
The man had no idea about the identity of the friends Bliss had made there either. Perhaps Bliss had asked him not to say anything. In the end, the only way to get an answer was for Bliss to reveal it himself. Ashley thought the same.
“I need to find out what happened.”
“A-Ash! Wait, Ash!”
Koi urgently grabbed Ashley as he turned to leave. Looking up at Ashley, who was staring down at him with a scowl, Koi continued flusteredly.
“Pressuring the child right now won’t be good. Let’s wait until he talks on his own, okay?”
“A parent should know if something has happened to their child.”
Though Koi spoke pleadingly, Ashley’s attitude was adamant. Ashley was difficult to stop in moments like this. It was a fact Koi knew well from years of experience, but he had no choice but to speak up regardless.
“But…”
As he struggled to open his mouth, Ashley looked down at him. Hoping in Ashley’s tendency to at least listen to him regardless of the situation, Koi spoke.
Even though he knew that listening and accepting were two entirely different matters.
“B is an adult now. If a problem arises, he’s at an age where he can solve it himself.”
It had been several months since he became an adult. In Ashley’s eyes, Bliss was still just a snot-nosed child. At the immediate frown on Ashley’s face, Koi was forced to bring out the words he had been hesitating to say.
“We can’t look after him forever.”
At those words, Ashley hesitated for the first time. Koi continued as calmly as possible, taking care not to sound heartless.
“It’s good to protect your child, but you have to respect their will too, Ash. So please, don’t say anything for now.”
Ashley didn’t respond. However, he was clearly wavering.
“Let’s wait, until B wants to tell us himself.”
As Koi finished speaking, Ashley, who had been staring at him in silence for a while, slowly opened his mouth.
“What if that time never comes?”
Seeing the distorted expression of someone who found it unbearable, Koi stroked his arm comfortingly and gave an answer.
“Then we have to just leave it be, without knowing. That’s what I think.”
“It’s sad, but,” he added with a bittersweet smile.
“Children are bound to leave their parents’ embrace eventually. B has simply reached that time.”
It was funny that he felt hurt by [Read on Read BL Novels]his own [visit our site]words, but Koi’s heart wasn’t at ease either. Nevertheless, he had to say it. Because this was reality.
“We were the only ones who weren’t prepared.”
Koi’s words made sense. Ashley tilted his head back and stared at the ceiling. Koi waited in silence through his tormented reaction. He thought that if Ashley still insisted on pressuring Bliss even after this, he wouldn’t be able to stop him anymore.
Meanwhile, Ashley Miller’s mind was a mess. He might be able to leave his other children alone, but he couldn’t do that with Bliss. Because Bliss was different from those guys. The world was full of beasts eyeing that small, fragile child; how could he possibly leave him be?
Yet, Ashley couldn’t just storm out. He knew Koi wasn’t wrong. No matter how hard they tried, Ashley and Koi would leave the world before Bliss, and Bliss would inevitably be left alone. If he left Bliss in the care of the others, the absolute worst-case scenario would unfold.
It might be a bit different with Nathaniel, but…
Recently, Nathaniel had found a ‘lover,’ so he could be somewhat reassured. However, that partner was a Beta. He couldn’t leave a mark, and no matter how strong Nathaniel was, he certainly wouldn’t be able to withstand Bliss’s pheromones. Then, the worst would surely happen.
Nathaniel would naturally anticipate such a situation. If so, his course of action was obvious. He would ‘manage’ Bliss by having a secretary or someone else check in on him, and in the end, the fact that Bliss would remain a loner wouldn’t change.
He would be physically safe, but…
“Sigh.”
He let out a deep sigh and rubbed his eyes. The only remaining option was Chase. He would be fine. Since he had a mark, he wouldn’t be affected by another Omega’s pheromones, and above all, he possessed ’emotions’ that the other brothers lacked—emotions he could feel for humans other than his lifelong partner.
But that was an even more impossible request. How could he ask Chase now to look after another brother?
I ruined everything.
Regretting it now was useless. For now, solving Bliss’s situation came first. What should he do?
“Ash.”
Koi spoke again to Ashley, who was holding his forehead with a low groan as if he had a headache.
“Think about the future later. For [Read on Read BL Novels]now, [Read on Read BL Novels]let’s just wait. If it really doesn’t work out, you can ask him then, right?”
Koi felt a belated sense of guilt, thinking he had burdened Ashley with too great a worry. He hugged Ashley soothingly and patted his back.
“I’m just saying let’s trust B and give him a little time. So you don’t have to worry too much. It just means that both he and we need time.”
“…Fine.”
In the end, Ashley conceded. He muttered in a drained voice and continued.
“A little bit of waiting should be fine. …Yes, let’s do as you say.”
Ashley silently hugged Koi back. Koi released pheromones as if to reassure him. Ashley buried his nose in the straight, white neck and inhaled deeply. As he smelled the only scent that comforted him, he felt his sharply frayed nerves relax all at once.
One month should be enough.
He also intended to reprimand the security team leader separately. The man might be able to hide things from Koi, but he wouldn’t be able to deceive Ashley.
If someone had dared to hurt his precious youngest…
As he opened his closed eyes, his purple pupils were shimmering with gold. Ashley vowed, gripping Koi tightly as if to crush him, his teeth grazing the neck.
I’ll throw him into the Hudson River and make him fish food.
The face of the man walking down the quiet hallway was stiff with tension. He had expected this situation, but that didn’t mean he could be indifferent. His opponent was Ashley Miller. Lies would not work. Yet, he couldn’t reveal the whole truth either.
What on earth should he do?
It was just a few hours ago that an unexpected hand of salvation reached out to him. Upon hearing the voice of the woman he had longed for in his dreams, he momentarily forgot all his anxiety and worry and shouted joyfully.
“Larien! It’s me, it’s me. Ah, you’ve finally contacted me…!”
—Yes, baby. It’s me.
At the unchangingly sweet voice flowing from the other end of the phone, the security team leader ended up covering his mouth with one hand. He was so overwhelmed that he felt as if his heart would burst.
