Mrs. Campbell stood by the window with her arms crossed, looking outside. The beautiful garden of the mansion was spread out wide in her view, but she didn’t see it at all.
Winston’s injuries were bigger than I thought…
Even now, he was enduring it by taking strong painkillers. The thought of almost losing her precious child made her spine tingle and at the same time, she felt rage at that lowly thing.
I went through all that trouble to separate them, I can’t let it all go to waste now.
She had heard the news that Yu-jin had returned to Delights a long time ago. But the reason she didn’t try to meet her son right away was because she thought she had to be that careful. Winston still doesn’t know. No, he can never know. Because all those who knew the secret had been taken care of.
Except for her children who conspired.
She can trust her children. If they make a mistake, their lives will be in danger. Now that Harold’s inheritance is at stake, they will keep their mouths shut even more.
The only person she was worried about was Andrew. He had turned Mrs. Campbell inside out by being infatuated with Yu-jin before. He wouldn’t repeat such a foolish thing again, but there was always a possibility that he would make a mistake because his mind was clouded by drugs.
It’s a good thing he took drugs now.
Thanks to that, she was able to put Andrew in the Closed Ward using that as an excuse. Andrew was her child, though not as much as Winston, so she didn’t want to put him back in the hospital, but the situation had changed, so she couldn’t help it. If she said it was because of the inheritance, Andrew would understand.
Anyway, that incident will never be discovered. Never.
* * *
Winston stared blankly at the numbers on the changing number plate. He had left the office two hours earlier than usual. He looked calm on the outside, but his inner thoughts were complicated.
‘There is no particular reason.’
He recalled the words of the doctor who had examined Yu-jin. On the other end of the phone, the doctor continued in a monotonous voice.
‘He’s weakened, but there’s nothing wrong with him elsewhere. Of course, this is the result of my brief examination, and if you could bring him to the hospital as soon as possible, I’ll use the machines to do a thorough examination.’
And the doctor added that he had given him a nutritional injection as an emergency measure, and then ended the call. In fact, he was planning to visit Andrew at the hospital where he was staying after work today. But now he was in agony. Was there any reason to meet Andrew? Nothing would change anyway.
Of course, he knew the reason. Evidence wasn’t just needed for Georgina. Winston also needed evidence. That he had done his best. Because he was going to pretend to believe Yu-jin anyway.
Maybe Yu-jin’s not feeling well because of stress.
Anyway, he had to schedule it as soon as possible. Once he had a thorough examination, he would know the cause.
Hoo, as he unconsciously let out a short breath and swept back his hair, he felt a monotonous beep and a strange sensation as if his body was floating. Soon after, the elevator stopped, and the door opened with a brief gap. The bodyguards who got off first quickly lined up on both sides, and Winston moved his feet.
As he got into the waiting car, the huge machine slowly moved. There was no need to say where he was going. He had already told his secretary the destination.
Winston didn’t bother to change the destination and just left it alone. Thinking that it was better to just get rid of the annoying procedures quickly, Winston, who was looking out the window, suddenly frowned. He vaguely saw someone running in front of the car that was slowly leaving the parking lot. And then the car stopped abruptly.
“I’m sorry!”
She shouted loudly and moved her body urgently to show herself to the car window where Winston was. Winston leisurely lowered the car window as he watched the bodyguards who had quickly gotten out of the car grab her and pull her away from the car.
“Georgina, what are you doing?”
There was a subtle hint of annoyance in his calm voice. Georgina struggled to get out of the bodyguard’s grip and shouted urgently.
“I have something to tell you, something important! I’m serious, you’ll regret it if you don’t listen!”
Georgina was desperate. It was the first time he had seen her shouting so desperately, so Winston felt a sense of novelty. Instead of answering, he lightly raised his hand, and the bodyguards immediately let her go. Georgina glared at the bodyguards once and opened her mouth, smoothing out the wrinkles in her crumpled clothes.
“I’ll tell you in advance, I’m not too late.”
Winston chuckled and pointed out.
“I thought you said it was until my secretary reported to me?”“I know, that’s why I said it’s not ‘too’ late.”
She retorted, her voice raised as if stung. Winston leaned back deeply into his seat, clearly annoyed.
“So? What’s the reason for showing up so late, of all times?”
He deliberately added with a sarcastic tone,
“Even to the point of blocking the car?”
“I have an important reason.”
Georgina wore a triumphant smile and confidently straightened her shoulders. Winston sensed something different in her demeanor.
“You wouldn’t be so confident just from finding out about Andrew’s hospital, would you?”
At Winston’s muttered words, Georgina arrogantly tossed her hair back over her shoulder and nodded.
“Of course. What would I do with such cheap information? I wouldn’t even consider making a deal with just that.”
“…A deal?”
Georgina repeated what he said, slowly dragging out the end of her words, and she asked, “Yes?”
“Can we talk alone for a moment?”
Georgina gestured, conscious of the bodyguards around her. As Winston closed the car window and leaned back in his seat, one of the bodyguards standing nearby quickly opened the opposite door. Georgina took a deep breath and hurriedly got into the car. The massive sedan unmistakably carried a sweet fragrance. It was Winston’s pheromone scent.
There would be no reason to suppress his pheromones, even in his own car.
Georgina inwardly agreed, then suddenly wondered. Then why does he bother suppressing the scent at Delights? It’s his mansion.
“So.”
Winston’s voice snapped Georgina back to attention. His cool eyes were fixed on Georgina.
“What’s the reason you confidently proposed a deal?”
Did she read some ridiculous spy novel somewhere? Until then, Winston didn’t trust her. He was only willing to listen out of minimal courtesy. As if knowing everything in his head, Georgina took a deep breath and opened her mouth.
“First, let me state my conditions. No matter what happens, exclude me. Especially, I really want to graduate from university.”
“You’re asking me to sponsor you until you graduate?”
“Yes, I don’t want to suffer with student loan debt for the rest of my life.”
Winston frowned slightly. Is it such a big deal that she’s worried about university tuition? Is he going to make Catherine or everyone like that? Surely, it’s just a child’s bluff. Or maybe she’s just terrified and imagining things.
“You could easily do that yourself, though? You’ll receive a Trust Fund when you turn twenty.”
“Anyway. That’s that, and we don’t know what the future holds.”
She was adamant. Winston nodded indifferently.
“Fine, I’ll do that for you. Now tell me, what did you bring?”
He might have to try not to laugh at her. As Winston tightened his lips, thinking that, Georgina took a deep breath and opened her mouth.
“Winston, have you ever thought that everything you know might be a lie?”
Winston frowned instead of answering. Georgina, breathless with tension and fear, heaved her shoulders and took several deep breaths.
“The reason I gave Andrew the drug was because I wanted to know what happened that day.”
The wrinkles on Winston’s forehead deepened even further. Georgina, feeling her voice tremble, took out the item she had carefully brought from her pocket.
“Here.”
What she carefully placed on the armrest was a small USB drive. Winston stared at Georgina. As if asking what the hell it was.
“It’s evidence.”
Georgina swallowed hard and added,
“The truth of that day is contained within.”
Winston said nothing, completely frozen as he stared at her.
