The sun was already preparing to set. Watching the sky turn a golden hue, Penelope took a sharp, excited breath. Finally, the time had come.
From the moment she received the order from Cassian until now, she had driven the servants hard, racing toward this very moment. She had lit every candle in the dining room, ordered several times more flowers than usual, and prepared the tableware reserved only for special occasions. Following their master's orders, the head chef and patissier had agonized over the menu, while the kitchen staff hurried about incessantly to ensure the food was ready on time.
