“Angie!”
Yu-jin shouted in dismay, but the child’s reaction was completely unexpected. He could only stare blankly as his daughter giggled and flailed her legs.
* * *
What’s going on?
Yu-jin, lying comfortably on a long chaise lounge, unconsciously frowned. What on earth had happened in the meantime? Winston and Angela’s relationship was much closer than before. How did he win the child over while I was away?
It’s only been a few days.
Or was it perhaps from before? Come to think of it, there were definitely signs. At some point, Angela stopped being afraid of Winston. But to get this close, what kind of magic did he use?
He never even cared about my child.
Yu-jin felt a surge of anger for no reason, but he soon calmed down. It’ll only be temporary. That man is just being capricious.
He couldn’t understand why he insisted on being discharged in the first place, but Yu-jin gave up. Was there even one thing he could understand about that man? It’s better to just give up.
…But.
Yu-jin unconsciously frowned and watched the scene before him. For an hour now, he had been watching the models come and go in front of him while half-lying down. With large bodyguards standing on either side of him. It was suffocating to be in a situation where no one would dare to try to take his life.
It had been the same situation ever since he came to this mansion. The only time Yu-jin could be alone was when he went to the bathroom. Winston was making a fuss as if someone was going to harm him right now.
“It won’t happen again.”
Yu-jin couldn’t help but say a word, but Winston just smirked, twisting the corners of his mouth. As if to say, what do you know? He was furious, but there was nothing he could do.
The most difficult thing was that Angela was having so much fun. The child went out to play somewhere every morning. After hearing that she had started learning to talk, he understood to some extent, but he couldn’t help but feel a little sad. When she returned in the afternoon, Angela was busy talking about how cute and articulate she was. It was a happy thing that the child was happy, but on the other hand, it was quite embarrassing.
Wouldn’t she hate me when we leave this place?
Everything here is an illusion. How will I explain that to Angela? His heart was already heavy at the thought of the child being disappointed.
“Don’t try to buy the child’s heart with money.”
In the end, Yu-jin turned his arrow towards Winston. He was an adult, and the only person who could control this situation. Winston reacted shamelessly to Yu-jin’s words, which were full of dissatisfaction.
“What’s wrong with using what I have?”
Yu-jin was momentarily speechless. That’s, he stammered for a moment before resuming his attack.
“We’re just in a contractual relationship. We’ll eventually break up, so what about the shock Angie will receive?”
He pointed out the reality coldly, but Winston just stared at him indifferently. What is it? What’s with that reaction? Winston opened his mouth to Yu-jin, who was inwardly nervous.
“That’s a matter for later. Enjoy the present, honey.”
“Huh.”
Yu-jin was dumbfounded and could only let out a short sigh. Enjoy the present, is that something that man would say?
But he was definitely enjoying it more than anyone else, just as he said. As proof, Winston sat next to Yu-jin and watched the models coming and going in front of him with a serious face, occasionally nodding. Then the model would quickly approach and show off the jewelry she was wearing or slowly turn around to reveal the beauty of the clothes she was wearing.
“How about this dress?”
Angela herself modeled the children’s clothes. Yu-jin’s guard disappeared and his lips soon loosened as he watched Angela, who had already changed into her fifth outfit, skip over and spin around in front of him.
“Cute, Angie. You’re my daughter after all.”
As he opened his arms, the child rushed into his arms as if she had been waiting for it. Yu-jin, who was hugging his daughter tightly with a bright smile, suddenly came to his senses. He glanced to the side and saw Winston watching them. Ridiculously, with a gentle lift at the corners of his mouth.
“I’ll try on the next dress too!”
Angela kissed Yu-jin on the cheek, then let go and ran off again. The child’s stamina was truly endless. After they were left alone again, Yu-jin sighed briefly, and Winston finally opened his mouth.
“Pick out some baby clothes too.”
“Again?”
Yu-jin, who had unknowingly blurted it out, quickly shut his mouth. He had already bought enough clothes for a non-existent child to fill an entire room. And now he wants to buy more.
“That’s enough. She won’t be wearing them for long anyway… Children grow up fast.”
Yu-jin gave a subtle reproach, but Winston replied without any particular reaction, “Is that so?”
“You’re probably right. You know more than I do.”
Yu-jin stared intently at Winston. Noticing his gaze, he frowned and asked.
“What’s wrong?”
Yu-jin asked back, still with a suspicious look.
“Who are you?”
Yu-jin continued, watching Winston’s brow furrow even deeper.
“The Winston Campbell I know isn’t this kind of man. He would have said something sarcastic more than ten times already. Are you putting on some kind of show that I don’t know about? What are you up to?”
As he spoke, the bodyguards disappeared without a sound. As if to give way to the private conversation of the master couple.
By the time Yu-jin finished speaking, no one was left. The spacious hall suddenly felt deserted. Winston sat with his legs wide apart, elbows on his knees, and looked at Yu-jin. The wrinkles on his forehead were no longer there, but his face was expressionless, making it difficult to know what he was thinking. As he watched with vigilance, Winston suddenly reached out a hand. Startled, he flinched, and Winston paused in mid-air before lowering his hand. Then, Winston pulled up the blanket that had slipped down to his neck and wrapped it around his shoulders, saying.
“Aren’t you cold? Should I turn up the temperature?”
No matter how much he turned on the heater, the huge mansion was bound to have a chill. But this mansion was different. Everywhere he went, the floor was warm enough to walk around barefoot. He wondered if this was the reason why he came here instead of Delights.
“…It’s okay.”
Yu-jin had no choice but to answer. More important than that was the fact that this man had avoided the topic. Just as he was about to turn the conversation back, Winston spoke first.
“Buy whatever you need. My child has the right to.”
Yu-jin’s heart ached at those words. Angela received nothing. No, rather, she almost died in Yu-jin’s womb, but the non-existent child was being treated so excessively.
Angela is this man’s child.
He felt unfairly wronged and his heart was heavy, and tears came to his eyes. Even though there were piles of baby products in front of him, he wasn’t drawn to any of them. Yu-jin rubbed his eyes irritably and spat out bluntly.
“I’m not going to do for another child what Angie didn’t get.”
Since it’s a non-existent child anyway, there’s no way he’ll feel any affection. Winston replied nonchalantly to the angry voice.
“Angie will have everything from now on, even what she didn’t have before.”
Winston seemed to think that would make up for it, but Yu-jin didn’t think so. What you can’t get at that time, you’ll never get.
There’s no point in saying anything anyway.
Yu-jin didn’t say anything more and closed his mouth. Thinking that the conversation was over, Winston took out his cell phone and called the bodyguards. Soon, people were bustling around again and the tedious shopping continued. Yu-jin felt his energy rapidly draining and soon fell asleep.
* * *
Winston laid Yu-jin down in bed and went to the next room. There, Angela was wearing the new clothes she had just bought and looking at herself in the mirror. Seeing Angela running around among the piles of things, his lips naturally loosened.
Winston approached the child, suddenly thinking that this was how parents felt when they couldn’t resist their children.
“Do you like the present?”
“Yes!”
The child shouted happily, hugging the new large doll in her arms. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes were sparkling, just like Yu-jin’s. Winston couldn’t help but smile at the indescribable loveliness.
“Thank you, it’s the first time I’ve received so many presents!”
Angela couldn’t hide her excitement and shouted. Winston was still smiling as he said.
“You’ll get even more at Christmas, won’t you?”
“Are you going to buy me presents for Christmas too?”
Winston gently pointed out to the surprised child.
“There’s Santa. You have to ask Santa for presents.”
Until then, he was in a good mood. Watching Winston, who was smiling without anticipating the answer that would come back, Angela opened her mouth with a stiff expression, unlike before.
“Santa only likes rich kids.”
