“S-Save me! I won’t do it again! I’ll never touch drugs again!”
As the man hanging upside down screamed, Jang-cheon released the rope without hesitation, plunging the man into the water. When he pulled him out again, his face was as white as a sheet. Perhaps feeling the fear of death, his voice grew louder as he begged for his life.
“I’m not even human if I do drugs again! Believe me!!! Shit!”
“Enough. Are you trying to kill him?”
Only after Jang-cheon stopped Gilsu could the man come down to the floor. After untying the rope around his feet, the man wrung out his wet clothes with his hands and glared at Gilsu. However, he couldn’t say anything more because of his own guilt.
The man’s name was Lee Boram, and he was once the son of a wealthy family living in district a. A man who loved making things since he was young, he set up his own workshop in the basement of his house and illegally manufactured weapons whenever he had time.
It would have been good if it had ended there, but he got involved with drugs at a club he went to with his friends, and after being punished twice, he even went so far as to illegally manufacture drugs. The result was banishment to area c. But for Lee Boram, area c was literally heaven. It was rampant with all sorts of cheap drugs.
Of course, that’s the story before he was dragged here. Or rather, the expression ‘followed’ would be more accurate. Jang-cheon dramatically saved him from being ripped apart by the area c thugs.
“You son of a bitch, if you didn’t have the ability to make weapons, you would have died a long time ago. You know that?”
Lee Boram invisibly twitched his lips. That’s right. The only reason they saved him, kept him alive, and even forced him to quit drugs was because of his ability. In fact, they were bringing in criminals with abilities from those who had been kicked out of district a, reforming them, and using them in amazing ways.
“I really hate drug addicts.”
As Gilsu grumbled, Jang-cheon nudged his shoulder to stop him. Then he approached Lee Boram and handed him a chocolate bar. The one he had snatched from the district a transport truck.
“Don’t take it the wrong way. I’m just worried you’ll go back to your old self.”
As Jang-cheon left, Lee Boram touched the chocolate bar and smiled bitterly. He thought it was better to prove his usefulness here than to be treated like trash by his family since he was young. While he was recalling a past he didn’t want to remember, Gilsu and Jang-cheon headed to the truck parked nearby.
When they called out to the man who was servicing the vehicle, he turned around and smiled brightly.
“Gangsan, are you done?”
“Not yet. Just need to tighten this.”
“Good work, maknae.” Jang-cheon stroked Gangsan’s head. Gangsan, who had joined the latest, said he had known the boss since he was young. After his elderly grandmother passed away, they brought him in since he was living alone. Although he was young, he was sociable and had a tough side, so he got along well with the family.
“Where’s Ire?”
“You should call him boss.”
“Where’s Ire Boss?”
“Probably rolling around with some woman somewhere.”
At those words, Gangsan frowned. When he asked why he was making up things that weren’t true, Gilsu looked around and lowered his voice.
“That’s how people won’t look down on us.”
Gilsu also exaggerated Ire’s age. Most of the rebel forces that were springing up everywhere were led by people in their 30s and 40s, saying that we were being led by someone too young. After escaping from district a, Gilsu secretly thought that he might become the leader, but unfortunately, that wish was not fulfilled. In a majority vote, Jang-cheon and Baek Seol supported Ire.
“Let go of your lingering feelings. Even though he’s young, he’s doing well, isn’t he?”
When Ire escaped from district a, he was half a corpse, and he suffered for nearly a month with a fever that wouldn’t go down. Just when they thought they might really have to dispose of a corpse, he got better, but even after that, he spent a month in a daze.
Then, miraculously, he came to his senses and got a tattoo on his body first. What turned Gilsu’s doubtful heart around was his tattoo. He felt his sincerity, so he had no choice but to acknowledge him as the boss that day.
It was also Ire who suggested bringing in the talented guys who had been kicked out to area c. Because there was a lot of animosity towards those from district a, they were against it at first, but in the end, it was a wise choice. In any case, it played a decisive role in the organization getting established.
While he was reminiscing, Baek Seol came running urgently from afar. It seemed that something had been caught in her eye while she was monitoring from the opposite side.
“Everyone, come quickly. I found something strange.”
“Strange?”
At the words to come and see, they followed Baek Seol into the cave. The cave branched out in several directions inside and even led to the opposite side, making it perfect to use as a hideout. Moreover, this mountain, called Butt Mountain, was far from other districts, so people didn’t come often. The name Butt Mountain was due to the peaks that resembled two buttocks.
Turning on their lanterns and passing through the dark cave, they came out to the opposite side, and Baek Seol pointed somewhere. It was the place where they had recently hijacked the truck.
“Look over there.”
When they said they couldn’t see because it was too far, Baek Seol handed over the binoculars. Jang-cheon’s mouth slowly opened as he put the binoculars to his eyes. Huh? Gilsu, who was next to him, couldn’t contain his curiosity and snatched them away. Gilsu’s reaction was no different.
“What is that…?”
“I’m not seeing things, am I?”
At Baek Seol’s words, neither Jang-cheon nor Gilsu could refute. It wasn’t common to see someone driving a red car, especially a convertible, on this desolate field. No, they had never seen it in their lives. Moreover, with what nerve was he wearing black sunglasses and leaning back in his chair with his arm out the window?
With behavior that was impossible to understand, question marks appeared above the heads of the three.
“Could it be a trap?”
“Let’s go see.”
“I told you to lay low for a while. Forget it.”
“No matter how much I look, there’s no one else with him?”
The three closed their mouths and pondered. They had only seen cars like that in books. What was the name again? Anyway, they were unimaginably expensive. For an individual to bring that out of the gate meant he was a very rich Young Master. If he was a rich Young Master, he would definitely have a lot of things.
Having come to a conclusion, Gilsu licked his lips.
“This might not be a crazy guy, but a jackpot?”
“Wait until the boss comes.”
“Who knows when he’ll come?”
“By the way, why does the boss keep going there to spy?”
“I don’t know. He said he saw something hideous.”
“If it’s hideous, it must be you.”
“Shut up.”
Then Gilsu jumped up from his seat. He persuaded the other two to go, saying that even if they just stole the car and sold it, it would be a profitable business. After much deliberation, Jang-cheon and Baek Seol also followed Gilsu. As they boarded the truck parked on the opposite side, Gangsan trotted after them.
“You wait here. Your brother will bring back an awesome car.”
Gilsu winked and climbed into the cargo bed. Then Baek Seol drove, and Jang-cheon sat next to her. Armed, they moved to the place they had seen earlier, and the man was still sitting in the same position. After parking the car nearby, Gilsu jumped out of the cargo bed and approached the man while looking around. Baek Seol and Jang-cheon followed behind him.
“Hey. Who are you? Why are you here?”
The man turned his head and took off his sunglasses. Baek Seol exclaimed, “Ooh,” and Jang-cheon nudged her arm to tell her to be mindful.
“I’m asking what your identity is!”
The man smiled brightly.
“Where’s your boss?”
Gilsu scoffed.
“Our boss is too busy rolling around with women!”
A murderous intent flashed in the man’s eyes for a moment.
“Rolling around with women? He is?”
He is? It was as if he knew him. With a tense expression, Jang-cheon cocked his gun and aimed it at the man. Baek Seol also fiddled with the dagger she had on her waist. The man got out of the car with a relaxed expression and raised his hands to shoulder height.
“I surrender.”
Gilsu’s gaze went to the wristwatch the man was wearing. It looked quite expensive, judging by the way it sparkled. If they combined the car and the watch, it was clear that they could make a lot of money no matter where they sold it.
In the meantime, the man continued to speak without paying attention.
“Bring your boss. I have something to say.”
Then Baek Seol retorted with a venomous expression.
“Our boss isn’t someone that someone as handsome as you can meet carelessly!”
“Seol-ah, come on! Why are your expression and words so different?”
While Gilsu and Baek Seol were bickering, the man pointed at each person with his eyes. You’re Gilsu, and you’re Baek Seol, and the big guy is Jang-cheon. Am I right?
Gilsu put on a serious face and aimed his gun.
“What’s your identity! Answer before I shoot you!”
“Bring your boss. Then I’ll tell you.”
“Don’t be cocky, you bastard! I’m asking who you are!”
“Stop. I hate repeating myself the most. If you ask again, I’ll shoot you first.”
With a click, Gilsu looked down at the sound that followed and his face turned pale. When did he take out the gun? He didn’t even see him move. The other two couldn’t help but be just as flustered as Gilsu.
Gilsu glared at the man and gritted his teeth. No matter how he looked at it, he wasn’t an ordinary person.
“You bastard! You’re a soldier!”
At that moment, the sound of an engine roared from somewhere. Seeing a jeep kicking up a dust storm in the distance, the corners of the man’s lips turned up. With a screech, the car stopped, and a man with half of his face covered by a mask jumped out in an instant.
“Boss! Do you know this guy?”
Instead of answering Gilsu’s question, Ire snatched the shotgun that Jang-cheon was holding. Then he strode towards the man. Sensing the danger, Gilsu stepped back.
“Don’t come! This guy has a gun,”
Bang! Ire didn’t hesitate and struck the man’s face with the butt of the gun. Gilsu, Jang-cheon, and Baek Seol were speechless at the sight of the staggering man. The man spat out blood-mixed saliva and smiled at Ire with the most affectionate face in the world.
“It’s been a while.”
“…”
“I missed yo-”
Before he could finish speaking, the butt of the gun flew in rapid succession. In the end, it hit him properly, and he collapsed, spitting blood and losing consciousness. Looking at the completely unconscious man, Ire took off his mask and handed the gun back to Jang-cheon.
“Bury this bastard in a pit. So he can never crawl out.”
