Yeon-rok woke up feeling incredibly refreshed and in perfect condition. It felt as though he had dreamed the sweetest dream of his life. As he tossed and turned with a languid sigh, he realized that someone was hugging him from behind.
He stiffened for a moment, but then recalled the memories of the previous night and relaxed. Turning carefully, he saw Yeom Cheon-ho’s face, deep in sleep. Knowing well that the other man had been overworking to the point of not being able to sleep properly, Yeon-rok did not wake him and simply gazed at him quietly.
Unlike Choi Hwan or Moon Gyeon-woo, Yeom Cheon-ho’s face—a handsome one with bold, strong lines—was something he enjoyed more the more he looked at it. On his completely naked body, well-trained muscles were attractively defined. His natural frame was large and his build impressive. Had he been born in the past, he certainly would have been a military officer, and a general at that.
After watching him for a while, Yeom Cheon-ho woke up. In a rare sight, his face was defenseless and heavy with sleep, but the usual steadfast atmosphere soon settled over him. Feeling a bit disappointed, Yeon-rok offered a morning greeting.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, Yeon-rok-ssi.”
Yeon-rok gave a small smile, greeting him as naturally as always. A natural smile also appeared on Yeom Cheon-ho’s face. For some reason, it felt as though the wall between them had lowered further than before. However, sorrow soon filled Yeon-rok’s face.
“You still have bruises.”
The swelling had gone down a lot, but bluish bruises still remained on Yeom Cheon-ho’s handsome face. Seeing them under the bright sunlight, unlike the previous night, made him feel quite upset.
“This much is nothing.”
“Who on earth hit you, CEO? And where exactly is this? How did we end up here?”
Only then did Yeon-rok pour out all the questions he was curious about. After hearing the explanation that they had lost consciousness following a collision with a dump truck, and were visit our sitevisit our sitevisit our site -->subsequently kidnapped by his biological father and brought to this island, Yeon-rok was left in shock.
“Fortunately, I was able to subdue them before they could harm us. I only got a few bruises in the process.”
“But, a dump truck? That means…”
Didn’t that mean they were trying to kill them? It was a shock large enough to knock both of them unconscious. If Yeom Cheon-ho’s car hadn’t been sturdy, they would have died on the spot or, at the very least, been crippled. Yeon-rok’s expression darkened. He felt he should have just ignored his biological father and never contacted him in the first place. He apologized with belated regret.
“I’m sorry. Because of me, you got caught up in something like this, CEO.”
“Yeon-rok-ssi, if we put it that way, all of this is because of me. If it weren’t for my father, none of this would have happened. Above all, if you hadn’t been with me, you wouldn’t have been in the accident. So, please do not feel guilty.”
Yeom Cheon-ho forgave him with great generosity and quickly changed the subject.
“If you wish, Yeon-rok-ssi, I will let you meet Assemblyman Yoo Young-taek. I’ve kept him locked up near the dock, so it won’t be dangerous.”
The offer was very tempting, but after thinking it over for a long time, Yeon-rok finally shook his head.
“No. I don’t want to meet him. I feel like I might actually do something terrible.”
When he thought about how the man had not only tried to harm him but had almost killed Yeom Cheon-ho, his heart sank and he felt anger rising to the top of his head. After all, this was his precious name partner. If he faced him directly, he might just throw Yoo Young-taek into the sea with his own hands.
Yeom Cheon-ho stroked the shoulder of the huffing, angry Yeon-rok and comforted him quietly and tenderly. Surprisingly, his mood cleared up instantly. The atmosphere was quite good when a growling sound echoed from his stomach. Yeon-rok’s face turned red with embarrassment. He quickly pretended nothing had happened.
“By the way, you said this is an uninhabited island? [visit our site]style="display:none;" aria-label="stolen content">stolen contentThere are no boats, so how do we escape from here? I’m glad there’s a place to stay, but I’m worried about food.”
“There is enough drinking water and food to last about a week. I am also a bit concerned about the escape. The only person who knows the location of this place is Manager Kim…”
Yeom Cheon-ho’s voice trailed off. Neither of them could be sure of Kim Jeong-seong’s condition, as he had been in the car with them at the time of the accident. Nevertheless, Yeom Cheon-ho spoke quite optimistically.
“Since we are fine, Manager Kim should be safe as well. So, unless Yoo Young-taek took separate measures, he wouldn’t have died. He would have been too busy kidnapping the two of us.”
“Y-yes, that’s true. Manager Kim will be safe.”
“Still, if a rescue team doesn’t come, let’s look for other ways.”
“They say every cloud has a silver lining!”
He tried his best to cheer up and agree, but the anxiety didn’t disappear. He was worried that Yoo Young-taek’s subordinate, who had fled with the boat, might arrive at the harbor first. When he voiced his concern, Yeom Cheon-ho spoke.
“If that happens, it’s actually better.”
“Is it… better?”
“The best scenario is for Manager Kim to come rescue us himself. The next best scenario is for Yoo Young-taek’s subordinate, who fled, to change his mind and return. In that case, we can hide, observe the situation, and then seize the boat.”
“Then what’s the worst-case scenario?”
“That neither of them comes to find us.”
“…”
Now that it was laid out, it seemed quite bleak. Yeom Cheon-ho stood up and diverted the attention of the pale, worried Yeon-rok.
“Then shall we take a look around the island before we eat?”
Since he was curious anyway, Yeon-rok quickly dressed and left the hut. Bright morning sunlight poured down, and he frowned for a moment as his eyes adjusted to the light. The hut they were staying in was located at the top of the island, providing a panoramic view of the small uninhabited island.
The island was slightly smaller than a school playground. It was lush with grass and trees everywhere, almost like a jungle. Looking further out, land was faintly visible. It would be impossible to swim that far, right? He had learned to swim briefly from Choi Hwan, but he didn’t have the confidence to cross the sea.
Once Yeon-rok finished looking around, Yeom Cheon-ho showed him a path hidden between the trees. Following the stairs down, they reached a fork in the road.
“Going this way leads to the dock. And this path leads to a hidden warehouse. Shall we go there to check the food supplies as well?”
“Okay!”
He called it a path, but because of the overgrown grass, Yeon-rok wouldn’t have even recognized it without Yeom Cheon-ho’s guidance. Concerned about skin irritation from the grass, Yeom Cheon-ho handed over his suit jacket and led the way in just his dress shirt. As he followed behind, he began to sweat profusely. Truly, it was summer…
“It’s right here.”
Yeom Cheon-ho stopped at a large tree. However, the grass was unusually thin only around that area. This was because there was a small door that one wouldn’t notice at a glance. While Yeon-rok watched with wide eyes, Yeom Cheon-ho knelt down and opened the door.
Screeeech… Since it had been neglected for so long, a thick cloud of dust unauthorized [stolen content]stolen contentwm: stolen content -->copyrose, making both of them cough repeatedly. Fanning himself with his hand, Yeon-rok asked curiously.
“How on earth did you make something like this?”
“Money is a means to make anything possible.”
With a slight smile, Yeom Cheon-ho quickly descended. Since there would be no way out if a disaster happened here, Yeon-rok carefully climbed down the ladder, step by step. Yeom Cheon-ho used a lantern at the entrance to illuminate the dark interior.
“Wow.”
Yeon-rok marveled. The small basement was filled with various items. He had vaguely imagined something like a cave, but it was neatly finished with concrete, making it more pleasant and better than expected. Perhaps because it was a basement, it was much cooler than outside.
“The state of the food is not bad. That’s a relief.”
Yeom Cheon-ho opened the packaging of the food supplies stacked on the shelves to check their condition. He also brought some water for the thirsty Yeon-rok. Surprisingly, this too was in the form of a can. When Yeom Cheon-ho opened it with a can opener, clear water splashed.
“There’s canned water too?”
“Canning is the most suitable method for long-term storage. If stored well, it can easily last for decades.”
After tasting it, the water didn’t taste bad, so the two of them each finished a can. After quenching their dry throats, they ate some food. It tasted better than expected. While eating, they checked the supplies; assuming they consumed one can per meal, there was enough to last generously for one to two weeks. Yeon-rok thought to himself.
This hideout was made with the intention of surviving for a month if necessary.
Yeom Cheon-ho must have always survived dangerous situations to the point of preparing such a place. He hoped that the [visit our site]matter with that man, Yeom [[visit our site]class="wm" style="opacity:0;font-size:1px;user-select:all;">stolen content]Cheon-ryul, would be resolved as soon as possible. Just in case, Yeon-rok asked.
“Is there no way to contact the outside world?”
“Hmm… This area is outside the call range, so I had prepared a satellite phone, but I accidentally dropped it and broke it. I’m truly sorry, Yeon-rok-ssi.”
“Why are you sorry, CEO!”
Yeon-rok hurriedly stopped him from apologizing. For such a meticulous person to drop a phone—either his physical condition was poor, or it was due to Yeon-rok’s own wretched bad luck. And for some reason, it felt like the latter…
