“Did you get me pregnant?”
Hae-jun asked abruptly. Lee A-gon gaped, stammering.
“Tell me the truth. Did you get me pregnant?”
“Hyung.”
Hae-jun hid his hand behind his back. Lee A-gon instinctively reached out, then withdrew his hand with a lingering gesture.
“Answer me. Did you get me pregnant, Lee A-gon?”
“Why would you ask something like that? You didn’t believe me anyway.”
He was evading the question. But his eyes kept searching for the pregnancy test Hae-jun was hiding behind his back.
“The first time I felt something was wrong was when you broke into Senior Yang’s house. As soon as I heard the knocking and woke up, I felt like I was being lifted into the air. When I came to my senses, I was standing in front of the door. As if I were possessed by a goblin.”
“……”
“The second time I felt something was wrong was on the historical drama set. You apologized for not being able to warm my body. It’s natural not to be able to warm someone else’s body, but you apologized. I thought you were kind and naive, and I told you that controlling other people’s bodies with your abilities was creepy.”
“Hyung. What’s the test result?”
“The third time was when Seo Ji-hoon asked me. He asked me twice if I really knew Lee A-gon’s abilities.”
“Hyung. Show me the test result.”
“The fourth time……”
Hae-jun brought one of his hands from behind his back to his forehead. Lee A-gon flinched visibly, then looked disappointed when he realized Hae-jun didn’t have the test in his hand.
“The fourth time, I remembered it while retracing the events. The day I left home without telling you and came back. The house was a mess. The sofa was split in half, and the TV and refrigerator were broken. The lights weren’t even on.”
“Hyung.”
Hae-jun could feel Lee A-gon’s patience wearing thin. But Hae-jun, with one hand behind his back, spoke resolutely.
“When night came, you arrived. I was afraid of the dark, so I tried to light a lighter, but I accidentally dropped it. I asked you to find the lighter for me. You didn’t, and suddenly it became pitch black, as if my vision had gone.”
“Are you afraid of the dark?”
Lee A-gon had asked. “Are you afraid of the dark? Are you afraid of the dark? Are you afraid of the dark?”
Hae-jun was afraid of the dark and fainted from not being able to breathe.
“Give it to me before I forcefully take it.”
Lee A-gon was now growling. The veins on the back of his hand looked like he could forcefully snatch the pregnancy test from Hae-jun at any moment.
“What, are you going to stop my heart?”
Hae-jun shot back sharply then. Lee A-gon’s eyes widened, then immediately narrowed. He then let out a small laugh. It was a smile that confirmed his certainty that Hae-jun had met with Seo Ji-hoon.
“Can you really get me pregnant?”
“Give me the test.”
“Answer me. Is that really possible?”
“Give me the test.”
“Am I really capable of getting pregnant?!”
Lee A-gon couldn’t wait any longer. He grabbed Hae-jun’s arm and forcibly snatched the pregnancy test.
Lee A-gon’s eyes narrowed as he examined the test. It was clearly one line, but if he squinted, it seemed like there were two faint lines. Perhaps the test was defective.
Lee A-gon raised his hand high and shone the test under the light of the lamp. It didn’t help him see any better, but he did it anyway. Hae-jun staggered and lunged at Lee A-gon, grabbing him by the collar.
“Tell me. You can, right? Right?”
Lee A-gon didn’t answer. He was engrossed in shining the test under the light.
“Please, Lee A-gon. Answer me. Milk is coming from my chest.”
Lee A-gon, who had been completely focused on the test, finally looked at Hae-jun. Hae-jun, still gripping his collar, collapsed as if he were melting down. The anxiety that had been building since he saw the milk was about to explode.
“Is it true?”
Lee A-gon covered his mouth with one hand. His eyes smiled faintly.
“You said milk is coming from your chest? Show me.”
Ugh. Hae-jun released his grip on Lee A-gon’s collar. He fell to his knees on the floor, panting.
Lee A-gon also knelt on one knee. While watching Hae-jun breathe in fear, he was more focused on taking off Hae-jun’s shirt than comforting him.
When Hae-jun’s top was finally removed, his chest was tightly wrapped with cotton and bandages, and seeing that, Lee A-gon smiled faintly again.
“It’s wet.”
Lee A-gon said in an ecstatic voice as he unwrapped the bandages.
“It’s really completely wet. Milk is dripping from your chest. Oh my god, I never dreamed milk would come from your chest. I really didn’t expect this.”
Hae-jun slapped away Lee A-gon’s hand that was reaching for his nipple. Rage burned fiercely.
“Is this something to laugh about? Milk is flowing from my chest right now. You still haven’t answered. Can I really get pregnant? Is that it?”
“I don’t know either. Whether I can or not.”
“What? You son of a—.”
“So let’s go find out together.”
Just as Hae-jun was about to punch Lee A-gon in the face, Lee A-gon spoke. Hae-jun blinked, his fist still clenched.
“Let’s go to the hospital and get an ultrasound. Then we’ll know.”
“I can’t go.”
“You can go.”
“I can’t. I can’t. If I go to the hospital… and say I’m a man who wants to check if I’m pregnant, they’ll send me to a mental hospital.”
“Then we can go to a hospital that won’t send you to a mental hospital.”
Lee A-gon answered cheerfully, as if it were no problem at all, and made a phone call. “Yes, it’s me. I have a favor to ask. Yes, I have a favor to ask……”
He entered the room while on the phone and returned while still on the call. He held Hae-jun’s clothes in his hand.
“Yes, yes. That’s good.” Lee A-gon continued the conversation, adding light interjections, then hung up. He frowned as he looked at Hae-jun, who was still kneeling on the floor, and pulled him up.
“Don’t sit on the floor when it’s cold. What if you get sick?”
Hae-jun swayed slightly. He had seen the milk as soon as he woke up that morning, and since then, he had been suffering from shock and worry, unable to eat anything.
“Hurry and get dressed. You can’t get sick from now on. Your body can’t be treated with medicine.”
Hae-jun tightly gripped Lee A-gon’s hand as he helped him up.
“What does that mean?”
He was panting. Even as Hae-jun glared at him with red, swollen eyes, Lee A-gon just smiled without answering and kissed the back of Hae-jun’s hand.
“Hurry and get ready. Let’s go to the hospital and confirm if your worries are correct.”
Hae-jun suppressed the rising irritation. Lee A-gon was right. What needed to be done now was to confirm whether he was truly pregnant or not.
Hae-jun wrapped his chest with fresh bandages and changed into the clothes Lee A-gon had brought.
Seven in the evening. Lee A-gon and Hae-jun went up to a private hospital that had closed for the day. A doctor and nurse were waiting for them and led Hae-jun to the ultrasound room with professional and courteous hands.
Hae-jun lay on the bed, his face bright red, and covered his face with both hands as the doctor lifted his clothes and applied gel to his abdomen.
Finally, the transducer pressed against Hae-jun’s belly. The doctor, knowing Hae-jun was a man, said nothing about it and quietly did his job.
“Is it a pregnancy?”
Lee A-gon, watching from the side, asked. The doctor stared intently at the monitor and shook his head.
“No. It’s not a pregnancy.”
Hae-jun lowered his hands and asked.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
The doctor declared, in a blunt but clear voice, that it was not a pregnancy. The nurse then wiped off the gel from his abdomen, and Hae-jun pulled down his clothes.
“But your body is showing pregnancy signs right now. You said milk is coming from your chest.”
Lee A-gon asked persistently. Hae-jun, pausing as he adjusted his disheveled clothes, glared at Lee A-gon.
“There are various reasons why milk can be produced from a male body. For the exact reason, we would need to do a hormone test. As you can see, this is a women’s hospital, so if you want to know the patient’s reason, it would be best to go to an endocrinology department or a men’s clinic.”
The doctor kindly answered the crazy person’s request for a pregnancy test on a man. He explained a bit more about why men might produce milk, but Lee A-gon did not give up.
“So, it’s really not a pregnancy?”
“Yes. That’s correct.”
The answer was the same no matter how many times he asked. Hae-jun clenched his fists and leaned forward as if in prayer.
He felt like crying. It wasn’t a pregnancy. Fortunately, it wasn’t a pregnancy.
“……Hyung, let’s go.”
Unlike Hae-jun, who was relieved, Lee A-gon’s expression was visibly disappointed. He sighed and was momentarily dazed before he collected himself, helped Hae-jun off the bed, put on his padding, and wrapped a scarf around him.
The two got into the car. They had been so worried and tense on the way here that Hae-jun hadn’t even noticed who was driving. Sitting in the driver’s seat was a man he recognized. It was 2 Meter, the one who had tested his abilities the day he first met Secretary Yang.
2 Meter sat ramrod straight, facing forward with a posture of strict discipline. So, Hae-jun didn’t acknowledge him either and sank deep into his seat. He was too tired to pretend to know him. He knew it wasn’t a pregnancy, but the problem wasn’t over.
Hae-jun still hadn’t received an answer to whether Lee A-gon could impregnate him.
“I’m sorry. I guess I couldn’t control myself.”
With only the soft hum of the car engine filling the silence, Lee A-gon spoke first.
“Tell me why my body is like this. You know the reason, don’t you?”
“Yes.”
Lee A-gon admitted it readily. Hae-jun, who had been resting his chin on his hand while looking out the window, turned towards Lee A-gon. Lee A-gon looked at Hae-jun with his usual gentle and affectionate demeanor.
“Explain.”
