Calm down. There’s no proof of anything. A Dominant Omega? That’s someone you might see once in a lifetime, if at all.
Grayson knows two Dominant Omegas, luckily. One is Koi, who gave birth to him, and the other is Angel, who gave birth to his friend Keith Pittman. But he literally just ‘knows’ of their ‘existence,’ and they have nothing to do with his life.
But out of the blue like this? Does this make sense?
Continuous doubts raised their heads, but emotion betrayed reason. His heart, beating so fiercely, couldn’t be lying. Until now, he had lived suppressing his instincts with reason. The only exception was when he had a ‘feeling’ that he had found his destiny.
Falling into the same delusion every time and regretting it, he wavered this time as well, just like before. The person Grayson had been searching for so desperately might be Fire.
‘Fire.’
In the midst of absurd belief, the Diviner’s words came to mind. What he had laughed off as nonsense now felt like the only light illuminating his path. Now it was no longer speculation but conviction. That man was the real deal. The way to confirm it was simple: meet him again.
How?
Grayson, who had stopped for a moment, moved his feet and began to pace again.
Should he set his house on fire? If he set this hospital on fire now? How would he find him among the Deployment firefighters? What if he’s off duty?
Unfortunately, his vague memory gave him no clues. He recalled the person he had glanced up at in the last moment. But he didn’t know what he looked like because he was wearing a helmet and had approached from behind. He thought he had heard a voice, but he couldn’t recall what it said, let alone what kind of voice it was. He didn’t even know if it was a woman or a man. No, it must be a woman. Because he said she had big breasts.
But other than that, there were no clues. The voice was close to a whisper, so even if he heard it again, it would be hard to notice.
So, should he set fires until he finds out who it is? That’s too inefficient. Isn’t there a more effective way?
…That’s it.
Before long, he came up with a brilliant idea. It was just a few hours later that Grayson headed east to see his Papa, Ashley Miller.
Desire Me if you can
The most promising next president. The former representative of North America’s number one law firm, a former lawyer, and currently a senator. The man who was the captain of the ice hockey team in high school and a VIP. A Dominant Alpha with a breathtakingly flamboyant appearance, over two meters tall with platinum blonde hair.
That was Ashley Miller.
With six children, he looked at his second son standing across the desk with his usual expressionless face. Even after hearing Grayson’s words, he showed no particular change in expression and slowly opened his mouth in the silence.
“What did you just say?”
His low voice was the same as ever, but repeating what he had heard was unlike him. Grayson looked at his Papa with a bright smile.
“I want to be a firefighter. But since it’s not a recruitment period right now, I’d like to get in through a special appointment. So, I was hoping you could help me out.”
He repeated what he had said earlier with a little more explanation. Ashley still stared at him without any expression before moving his lips.
“What did you say?”
“I want to be a firefighter, Papa. Since it’s not a recruitment period right now, I’d appreciate it if you could use your influence to get me in through a special appointment.”
He might have felt annoyed at having to repeat the same words for the third time, but Grayson still didn’t lose his smile. Ashley stared intently at his son’s manufactured smile, which he had seen so often. After another silence, Ashley Miller finally seemed to accept reality and leaned deeply into the back of his chair.
“What’s your motivation?”
“Helping people is a noble act.”
It was an answer as if taken from a textbook, but of course, it was not the answer Ashley wanted at all. That wasn’t the kind of statement his son would make. Grayson, already anticipating Ashley’s cold reaction, added without hesitation.
“My destined lover is in the fire station. I want to go and check it out.”
“Ah…”
Only then did Ashley narrow his eyes and let out a long exclamation. It was a nonchalant reaction as if to say, ‘Of course,’ but Grayson continued without paying attention.
“Of course, there’s a good chance I’ll be wrong again. But you never know unless you try, right? You said I can do whatever I want, as long as it’s not a crime. Helping others isn’t a crime.”
Ashley didn’t react to the words that flowed out as if he had prepared them quite a bit. Ashley, who had been staring at his son’s face, which became unusually passionate when the word ‘destiny’ was mentioned, twisted the corners of his mouth and asked.
“Do you know how many fire stations there are in the country?”
Grayson paused for a moment but soon smiled and replied.
“Of course, I’ve checked.”
“With a Diviner, I presume.”
“With tarot cards.”
Knowing that Papa was being sarcastic, Grayson skillfully deflected the words. The reason he didn’t bother to explain, ‘There was a fire at the place where the Pheromone Party was held, and among the firefighters who came to put it out, there was a Dominant Omega who is my destiny. I want to become a firefighter to find him,’ was because he was sure that this would be even more ridiculed. For Ashley Miller, the absurd story of ‘I had my fortune told and that’s what happened’ would be more palatable. The latter could be dismissed as the usual nonsense, but the former would lead to suspicions that he had finally gone crazy because of Pheromones. Thinking so, Grayson waited for Ashley’s answer.
Ashley stared intently at his son’s smooth face, which resembled his Papa, Dominic, so much. He suppressed the instinctive revulsion and tried to find the image of his mate in him, but unfortunately, it was a futile effort. Having repeated the same failure every time, Ashley accepted reality this time as well.
“It’s good to be motivated to do anything.”
Grayson’s eyes sparkled at the indifferent voice, and at the same time, his ears twitched briefly. Only then did Ashley’s heart soften somewhat. Ashley, fixing his gaze on Grayson’s ears, which had the same habit as his only Omega, continued.
“Okay, I’ll pull some strings. But there’s a condition.”
“Yes, anything.”
Grayson answered right away without even listening. Ashley thought that his blind attitude always created bad situations, but he didn’t feel like giving a warning. Failure also gives important lessons in life.
“You have to stay for at least a year, don’t quit.”
Once again, Grayson paused and froze. The reason why the silence was longer than before was obvious. It was because he would want to quit right away if he failed again this time. He would have to find the next partner as soon as possible.
No way.
Ashley looked at his son, who was hesitating and delaying his answer, and added one more word.
“Jackson complained to me. That you messed up his precious twins.”
“It was self-defense. They were trying to rape me.”
Grayson paused at the forgotten name but soon defended himself with a smile. Ashley’s eyes seemed to narrow, and he spat out in a more cynical tone than usual.
“Because you provoked them by spreading Pheromones first.”
Grayson tried to retort again, but Ashley spoke before him.
“The responsibility for that is to be replaced by serving the public. Your petty destiny-finding is your own business, and you have to take responsibility for what you’ve done. Did you come to me to beg me to use my influence to find that great destiny without even that much resolve, to use a shortcut?”
He deserved to hear these words. There was no room for excuses because they were so right. Grayson hesitated to answer, feeling an ominous premonition that he might fail again this time. Hadn’t he repeated countless mistakes, relying only on premonitions until now? Who could guarantee that this time would be different?
But what if this time is real?
