Something is definitely strange.
While sitting in the car and moving to the next location, Bliss was lost in thought with a serious expression. He had forgotten about it for a moment due to the slight commotion, but as he sat quietly in the car, the doubt resurfaced.
Mozart’s grave, a stroll through the Palace of Versailles… so, next is…
Bliss’s bright blue eyes flashed.
Could it be… the Alps?
He had definitely seen this unusual pattern before. It was the exact same progression as the date course Bliss had suggested to Penelope. If the next place they went was the Alps, there would be no mistake.
Once they transferred to a plane again, Bliss became certain. If he asked where they were going now, there would only be one answer. There was no need to delay any longer. He narrowed his eyes, glared at Cassian, and spoke.
“Where are we going right now?”
When he asked in a low, meaningful voice, Cassian answered indifferently, still looking out the window.
“You’ll find out when we get there.”
It was exactly the answer he had expected. Hmph, he thinks I’ll just let this slide. Bliss spoke, still keeping his eyes narrowed.
“I’ll forgive you if you’re honest right now.”
“What?”
Taken aback, Cassian reflexively turned his head to look at Bliss. This peanut crumb, daring to… what? Forgive? Where did he get such an absurd idea…
However, Cassian was unaware of the bravery of the peanut he looked down upon so much. Seeing Bliss with his eyes wide open, his entire body seemingly ablaze with passion, Cassian momentarily flinched.
What is this? All of a sudden. Wait, no way.
He hurriedly scanned the surroundings, and fortunately, he saw nothing that could be used as a weapon. Cassian let out a sigh of relief and looked down at Bliss arrogantly. A peanut with empty hands is just a peanut.
“What nonsense are you babbling? If you have nothing to do, just go to sleep.”
He then added sneeringly,
“That’s the thing you’re best at, and the only thing you actually know how to do.”
This bastard.
Bliss glared at Cassian with all his might, then suddenly covered his face with his hands and screamed.
“Ack, my eyes!”
Because he had stared so intensely, his dry eyeballs had begun to hurt. After blinking rapidly inside his hands, Bliss managed to soothe his aching eyes and looked up. He immediately locked eyes with Cassian, who was sitting opposite him; Cassian twisted his lips and shook his head as if he had been waiting for this. The clear act of mocking him made Bliss’s anger flare up.
This guy, your time to act arrogant is over.
Bliss clenched his fists and took a deep breath.
“I warned you to be honest. This is your last chance. You’ll regret it if you keep holding out, because I have evidence.”
“Evidence?”
Cassian repeated Bliss’s words, but his expression didn’t change. It was as if he were thinking, What could someone like you possibly know? Bliss puffed out his chest confidently and began to present the evidence one by one.
“First, Mozart’s grave, then the Palace of Versailles. Therefore, next is—!”
Bliss intentionally paused before pointing his index finger at Cassian and shouting.
“You’re going to the Alps, aren’t you?!”
Cassian didn’t answer. However, Bliss didn’t miss the way Cassian’s eyes flickered ever so slightly. I knew it!
“Caught you, you fraud!”
As Bliss shouted, a vein immediately popped on Cassian’s temple.
“This damn… peanut… how dare you call me—?”
He barely managed to swallow the curse, but he couldn’t stop his voice from rising. Yet, even in the face of a furious Cassian, the damn peanut crumb surprisingly kept his head high and stood his ground bravely.
“Everything you’re doing right now is from the date list I planned. Did you think I wouldn’t know? You fraud, you liar!”
“You…”
What are you talking about, you crazy capybara? Can’t you just shut your mouth? You peanut crumb, do you have any idea how much I’m struggling because of you, and you dare say such things to me…
Swallowing all those words, Cassian sank deep into his seat.
“It’s just a coincidence.”
At the shamelessly calm voice, Bliss played his final card.
“Then let me tell you where you’ll go after the Alps! It’s Disneyland!”
Cassian didn’t respond. Bliss glared at him triumphantly, waiting for an answer. Go on, say something if you can.
But Cassian wasn’t that easy.
“No, you idiot. I said it’s just a coincidence.”
At the irritated words spat out with a distorted face, Bliss immediately poured out accusations.
“Liar, liar. Bad man!”
“I said it’s a coincidence.”
“No, you fraud! Liar!”
This peanut?
For a moment, Cassian was so enraged he almost screamed. However, when he locked eyes with Bliss, who was staring back with bloodshot eyes, he hesitated. He couldn’t bring himself to yell at and press that tiny creature.
Instead, he shut his mouth and looked out the window. Then, suppressing his anger, he shifted his gaze to the ceiling and eventually lowered his head, resting his forehead on one hand.
“…Haa.”
Finally, a deep sigh escaped his lips. A sudden, heavy fatigue washed over him. His anger toward the arrogant peanut vanished, and now everything just seemed fine. Ultimately, Cassian sank into his seat and spoke in a weary voice.
“Fine, you’re right. Are you satisfied now?”
“Hmph. I knew it.”
Bliss, who had snorted arrogantly, crossed his arms and tilted his head up.
“Thinking you could trick me… not a chance… sir. Now you understand, right? Stop doing such foolish things.”
“Yeah, I get it.”
Once again, Cassian surrendered obediently. Still wearing a tired expression and rubbing the bridge of his nose, Cassian paused and then frowned, staring at Bliss.
“By the way, how did you find out?”
The plan should have been perfect.
As he looked at him with doubt, Bliss replied with an arrogant smile.
“Mozart, Versailles, the Alps. The fact that the course consisted of these three was the most definitive evidence of all… sir.”
When Bliss hurriedly changed his tone, Cassian asked again with a still-frowning face.
“I’m asking why that’s evidence.”
Now that he thought about it, it was strange. Why those three specifically on the list? They were all in completely different locations.
He had simply thought it was because he was a crazy capybara, but was there another reason?
As Cassian wondered belatedly, Bliss declared confidently.
“Because those are the only three famous places I know other than America!”
For a moment, Cassian stopped all movement. …What did I just hear?
Toward the man staring at him blankly, doubting his own ears, Bliss lifted his chin and added excitedly,
“And since you’re visiting those three in order, it’s naturally suspicious. I knew it. You were following my list exactly!”
As Bliss laughed loudly and boisterously like a villain, Cassian stared at him blankly. What on earth happened? What was the point of all the effort I’ve put in until now?
A groan of emptiness escaped from deep within his chest. Cassian closed his eyes and leaned back deeply into the seat.
He lost.
Internally declaring his defeat, he stared at the ceiling with a hollow gaze. Yes, it was impossible from the start. I am a human; how could I possibly beat that crazy capybara?
Along with the thought that he had done something foolish, he felt a sense of admiration. Wasn’t it truly amazing that the peanut had worked his tiny brain cells so hard to figure this out?
I underestimated him too much.
It seemed he wasn’t as dim-witted as he thought. Or perhaps he was just average, but because there were so many brilliant people around him, he had been treated as such by comparison.
…I am the same.
At the sudden thought, he felt pathetic and began to blame himself. Just as he felt ashamed upon realizing that he, too, was nothing more than a common snob…
Suddenly, the peanut shouted.
“If you like me, confess honestly, you cowardly man!”
For a moment, Cassian’s mind went completely blank.
…What?
He was dazed for a while. What did that peanut just say to me? Cowardly? No, before that, I think he just babbled something incredibly shameless.
“…Hey.”
His brain slowly began to function. Still feeling a sense of disbelief, he barely managed to open his mouth.
“What… did you… just say?”
He couldn’t bring himself to utter those words. Instead, as he spat out each word slowly, as if chewing them, the peanut placed both hands on his hips and declared triumphantly.
“I know everything. Cassian Strickland, I know that you like me!”
Surprisingly, the peanut babbled the same nonsense again. In that instant, Cassian thought: the place they needed to go right now wasn’t the Alps, but a psychiatric hospital.
