Hoo.
After drinking half a glass of warm water, Yu-jin let out a deep sigh. At least he felt a little better today. He hadn’t vomited or felt nauseous, and after eating soup and salad, he felt more energetic than he had in recent days.
But.
The doctor’s words kept bothering him.
‘These symptoms seem to indicate pregnancy.’
At the cautious words, Yu-jin was startled and denied it. He insisted that he couldn’t be pregnant and that such a thing was absolutely impossible, and the doctor, seeing him shake his head vehemently, made a serious expression and concluded.
‘Let’s get a thorough examination as soon as possible. If it’s not that, we need to find out what the other cause is.’
In addition, he had drawn blood to run tests, so the results would be out tomorrow. Yu-jin, convinced that he was definitely not pregnant, grabbed him as he hurriedly left the room.
‘Please don’t say anything like that to Winston. I don’t want to disappoint him.’
The doctor nodded as if it were obvious and left the room. After getting an IV drip and falling into a deep sleep, he woke up feeling much better.
After putting Angela to sleep, Yu-jin sat alone on the bed, drinking water and lost in thought. That’s impossible. Even when he was injured because of Charlotte and hospitalized, the doctor said so. That he couldn’t get pregnant.
But, what if…
Just as his hand holding the cup trembled slightly at the ominous thought, he heard a faint noise from down the hallway, which soon turned into a loud commotion. Startled by the rapidly approaching footsteps, he turned his head, and the door burst open without a knock. The man standing in the doorway was, of course, Winston. Knowing that he was the only man capable of such an action, Yu-jin could only stare with wide eyes. Being capable of such an action and actually committing it were completely different. It was the first time he had barged in without knocking, so Yu-jin was bewildered.
“Why…”
He managed to open his mouth, but couldn’t continue. Winston’s face, as pale as a corpse, made it clear that something unusual had happened. His hair was disheveled and he was even panting as he looked at him, making Yu-jin feel uneasy. Could the doctor have…?
Just as he reached that thought, Winston moved. With a slow pace, completely different from before, he began to walk into the room, or rather, towards Yu-jin.
Amidst the bewildered gaze, Winston stopped. Yu-jin waited silently for him, standing a few steps away, but his heart was pounding as if it would burst. He couldn’t imagine what words would come out of Winston’s mouth. He simply emptied his mind and waited, and finally, Winston opened his mouth.
“…didn’t.”
“What?”
Yu-jin couldn’t properly understand the deeply sunken voice. Frowning, he asked again, and Winston stammered, then spat out with a distorted face, as if sighing.
“You didn’t sleep with Father.”
…Huh?
This time, he couldn’t even make a sound and only widened his eyes. What was this all of a sudden? What was going on? As Yu-jin simply stared, bewildered, Winston rummaged through his coat pocket and dropped something onto the bed with a thud. Yu-jin inadvertently glanced at it, then turned his head back to Winston, who pointed at it with his finger and muttered.
“It’s there, the evidence.”
After saying that, he roughly inserted his fingers into the angle of his tie and pulled down the thin, long cloth that was wrapped around his neck. Yu-jin still didn’t say anything. He was too confused to know what to say first. Yu-jin, who had been silently watching him, finally managed to open his mouth.
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
“Father didn’t sleep with you. And you, you were deceived.”
Winston stated definitively. Seeing his attitude, Yu-jin suddenly let out a hollow laugh. Yu-jin, who had only let out a short breath, frowned and retorted.
“I’ve been saying that all along.”
“Yeah.”
Winston muttered in a hollow voice.
“I didn’t believe you.”
After saying that, he collapsed into the chair as if crumbling. With his legs spread wide, his arms resting on his thighs, and his upper body bent over, he looked more desperate than any other time Yu-jin had seen him. Yu-jin silently watched him, then turned his gaze to the object lying alone on the bed. The evidence was contained in this tiny USB drive, and with a bewildered mind, he picked it up and stared at it quietly before opening his mouth.
“How did you get this?”
What kind of data is in it, and who made it? After taking a deep breath, Yu-jin barely managed to ask the first question, and Winston opened his mouth after a pause.
“Georgina, from Catherine.”
“What?”
What was this all of a sudden? As Yu-jin panicked, Winston rubbed his face roughly with both hands and began to speak in a choked voice.
“Tell me just one more thing.”
The voice that came out with his face buried in his hands sounded like a mumble. Yu-jin was startled by the words of request, which were different from his usual coercive tone.
Regardless of his reaction, Winston continued.
“If you didn’t sleep with my father, who else did you sleep with?”
Yu-jin inadvertently frowned. Was he back to square one? Just as he thought that, Winston said something unexpected.
“If you didn’t sleep with my father, or anyone else.”
Having said that, Winston slowly raised his head. His face, clearly showing his torment, turned to Yu-jin for the first time.
“Whose child is Angela?”
In that instant, Yu-jin’s heart sank. A silence different from anything before descended between them. Only the fierce sound of his own rapid pulse echoed sharply in his ears. Seeing Yu-jin’s reaction, Winston opened his mouth.
“Please.”
He urged in a faintly trembling voice.
“Tell me the truth, I’ll believe anything you say.”
It felt like a loud siren was ringing in his head. No, don’t say it. Have you forgotten what will happen if he finds out? Angela will be taken away, you’ll never see her again! But this was different from before. Until now, Winston had branded Yu-jin as a promiscuous Omega, so clumsy lies had worked, but this time it wouldn’t be easy. Just one genetic test would be the end of everything.
*Gulp.* His mouth was parched, and his Adam’s apple moved up and down meaninglessly. Yu-jin barely managed to open his mouth, but no sound came out.
There’s no escape anymore.
The moment he met Winston’s eyes, Yu-jin instinctively realized it. That man already knows. He just wants to confirm it with my own mouth.
“…I told you.”
Yu-jin finally managed to open his mouth after a long time. For some reason, he felt like crying, so he forced a smile.
“I’m pregnant with your child.”
At that moment, Yu-jin clearly saw it. The man’s expression, a mixture of shock and horror, as if the world was collapsing. Ah, Yu-jin let out a trembling sigh. Telling the truth wasn’t as difficult as he thought. Rather, feeling a sense of relief, he added.
“I haven’t slept with anyone but you.”
Winston didn’t even flinch until the last confession was added. He just stared blankly at Yu-jin.
“…It’s my child?”
After a long time, he barely managed to squeeze out the words.
“Angie is really, my child?”
“Yes.”
Yu-jin answered briefly. Winston was silent again. Yu-jin quietly watched him slowly shift his gaze and stare blankly at one wall.
“I guess you don’t believe me.”
Yu-jin muttered, seeing him without any reaction for a long time. It wasn’t like he was heartbroken because he had already expected it. Just…
“No, I believe you.”
Just as he was about to bring it up indifferently, Winston opened his mouth in a slow tone. Surprised by the unexpected answer, Yu-jin asked.
“You believe me? Without even doing a genetic test?”
“I believe you.”
Winston answered without hesitation. As if he hadn’t even considered such a thing. The empty gaze that had been fixed on the wall gradually changed to a clear one.
“So, I’m thinking about it. …How to screw over everyone who made you suffer so much.”
As Winston’s eyes slowly turned golden, a strong pheromone scent was felt. Yu-jin could clearly tell that the slowly rising emotion was boiling over with rage. Winston muttered through gritted teeth.
“Including me.”
